Food, glorious food… Sicily is famed for its top-notch cuisine, drawing folk to flock from all over to forage for tempting morsels as they roam. And that quest for your next tasty meal needn’t involve trips to far-flung corners of the island if you snag a stay at Duca di Castelmonte: among the fruit and olive trees at this agriturismo site, on a farm a few minutes’ drive from Trapani, the tables are stacked with all manner of local and homemade fare. Pull up a chair at the restaurant and join with a feast of traditional Sicilian dishes cooked up by the Curatolo family using their own homegrown veg (homemade tomato purée on your agripizza – si, grazie mille). Need somewhere to digest in peace? The estate has been designed to create plenty of comfy nooks for relaxing or socialising with a glass of something local in hand. Naturally, you’ll be wanting a little a little respite from all the eats from time to time (lest you explode…). Appetites can be easily worked up with a swim in the outdoor pool or games of football, volleyball, basketball, table tennis or pétanque. Meanwhile, bambini can be entertained at the playground or cooing over the animals at the mini farm (who knows, you might even find them showing an interest in the veg garden now they’ve tasted its wares...?). Heading out, you can hire bikes for local pottering, or drive for 15 minutes or so for a beach, a castle and Trapani’s historic centre.

Relaxed vibe, top staff & tasty grub at the restaurant. Pool's a winner (extra cost). Spacious pitches okay for tents/vans, but tight for big campers. Bugger all loos though (just one!), and nowhere to dump grey/black water.

Disliked Le piazzole non sono abbastanza grandi per un camper, al massimo per un van. Sono un campeggio ma non hanno lo scarico wc.

Liked Nos encantó el ambiente, la atmósfera del sitio, la piscina, la amabilidad del personal de recepción, limpiadoras, de cafetería y restaurante. Además Gaetano nos llevó al puerto y nos recogió a la vuelta, es muy amable y una gran persona.
Nos gustó el concepto de agroturismo, lo cuidado que estaba todo, sus olivos, los cultivos, las especias, los animales…y su aceite.

Disliked Que no tuviera servicio de cambio de aguas grises- negras para caravanas.

Liked Il personale è stato molto garbato. Nonostante non ci fosse il bar abbiamo chiesto un po di frutta e ce ne hanno dato un bel vassoio.
Eravamo in pochi (3 tende e 1 camper) quindi si stava molto bene in pace, lontani dai rumori della città e delle macchine.

Disliked Un unico bagno con la porta che non si chiudeva bene ma, ripeto, non c'è stato affollamento quindi non ha pesato la cosa

Liked The pool was great and the food was well priced. Great pizza all at 9e or less, home cooked and BIG.

Disliked The camping site is a carpark with toilet x 1 shower x 2 . The door to the toilet/shower will not close as the shed it's in is collapsing. Electric O.K. Never found the water, or chemical toilet dump (went in the toilet) or grey water dump.
SWIMMING POOL IS 7.5e EXTRA/DAY.
After cleaning in the morning the SAME EMPTY HAND WASH bottle was left neat and tidy in the toilet, unbelievable !!!!

Liked Molto spazioso, facile da raggiungere e con supermercati a pochi km di distanza. La piazzola per la tenda l'abbiamo potuta scegliere in uno spazio abbastanza ampio. La struttura annessa ha un ristorante/pizzeria all'aperto (che non abbiamo potuto provare per questioni di tempo), più una sala interna. Con 8 euro in più era disponibile la colazione a buffet. Corrente elettrica presente per i campeggiatori e doccia gratuita. Personale molto gentile e disponibile.

Disliked I servizi igienici sono scarsissimi di numero, perciò basta che il camping sia un po' affollato perché diventi un problema non da poco. C'è solo un wc.
Non sono presenti frigoriferi per i clienti e questo è un problema sopratutto in estate, perché in Sicilia fa veramente caldo. Nonostante ciò il personale ha acconsentito a tenere per noi delle bevande nel frigo riservato alla struttura stessa, che abbiamo potuto riprendere rivolgendoci nuovamente a loro (un po' macchinoso però).

Local attractions

Take off to Trapani for the day and you can get a sense of its history just by wandering through the Old Town – its past role as an important trading post has left it with all sorts of swish buildings, including a lovely baroque centre. If you’ve got a little longer, check out the artworks in the Museo Pepoli and the Chiesa del Purgatorio (home to 20 sculptures depicting the Passion of Christ). It’s also worth taking the short boat ride across the lagoon to Mozia, a museum island with marble statues, mosaics and an ancient dockyard as well as some stunning views. Those who’d like to stretch their legs may fancy a stroll around the gorgeous coast, caves and hills of the Zingaro nature reserve (an hour away); equally fab views over coast and country can be had with less effort while gliding along to hilltop Erice in the cable car from Trapani. Beach time beckoning? Take your swimming cossie up to the sands of Trapani’s San Giuliano beach or board a boat from the harbour to swim in the clear waters of the Egadi Islands (the nearest, Favignana, is about a 25-minute journey away).
