You’ll be well set for all these at Campeggio Pian Bosco, a kilometre from Chiusa di Pesio. Seek out the info point or have a natter with the friendly site staff for all the local knowledge on your favoured activity, be it getting active in the Marguareis Natural Park, fishing at Lago di Pianfei or wallowing in the thermal waters of Lurisia. No need to feel like you have to roam constantly though – there’s plenty to keep you occupied for a while on site too. Around the wooded park are an open-air swimming pool, a beach volleyball court and playground, and there’s plenty of space around the place for games or putting your feet up. Eats and drinks are easily sorted at the site’s bar-restaurant, which has an open terrace for balmier days and a spacious indoor room for chillier ones. Other dining options for summer guests include using the barbecues and/or hanging out at the covered picnic area. When darkness falls, those who fear night-time stumbles will be chuffed to see that there’s plenty of lighting around the place to aid your safe passage at all times.

Get set for active days, as the area around Chiusa di Pesio is prime territory for outdoorsy types. Being in the Maritime Alps means plenty of scope for hikes and mountain bike trails through woods and wildflowers; the folks on site can suggest suitable routes or you can join in group outings with tour companies in town. For leisurely days out, the riding centre five minutes away in Lurisia has treks both short and long, and there’s good fishing for carp and trout 10 minutes away at Lago di Pianfei. Want to get the pulse going a bit faster? Head to Demonte, half an hour away, for rafting or scramble up the area’s highest peak Bisalta (actually a double-peaker with two tips at 2018 and 2231 metres). Those in need of a little rest should make their way to the spas of Lurisia to soak in thermal waters; gentle wanders nearby might also take in the monastery of Certosa di Pesio (15 minutes’ drive) or Mirabello Castle (two minutes), or a trip to the historic centre of Cuneo (20 minutes away).
