  • Several vineyards with half an hour’s drive; Turin an hour
  • Fine-dining restaurant on site; hiking and cycling from the pitches
Looking for some tasty regional dining on your northern Italian camping holiday? Garden Sharing del Cuore, set among vineyards five minutes’ drive from the rural Piedmont village of Carrù, will certainly see you happy. You’ll never go hungry when you choose to stay here, for the campsite has got quite the reputation for its traditional homemade cuisine, served up in La Locanda restaurant. Eat in the shaded garden, or inside under the brick-vaulted ceiling of the dining room. The menus feature seasonal, fresh and local produce, so expect Piedmontese dishes like ‘tajarin’ pasta with braised pork and truffles, or cured meats and cheeses, all accompanied by fine local wines from the well-stocked cellar – you can also buy bottles to take home as a souvenir of your Piedmont holiday. This laid-back spot with grass pitches for tents and tourers is also a handy gateway for exploring the hilly Langhe region, as myriad outdoor activities – such as hiking, biking, horse riding and wine tasting – are accessible directly from the site. Any issues or queries? Feel free to ask the friendly campsite staff if you’d like some advice or suggestions to make your stay unforgettable.

Local attractions

It’s easy to spend days touring Langhe vineyards to sample Barolo or Moscato wines (there are several within half an hour’s drive); real wine buffs can also learn more about local vintages at the interactive WiMu Museo del Vino a Barolo (also half an hour). On your travels between wineries, look out for the colourfully painted Cappella delle Brunate (35 minutes), which was once a shelter for vineyard workers, or stop off at the Museo Archeologico di Bene Vagienna (10 minutes) to stroll the ancient Roman ruins and admire the richly fresco remains of the Renaissance castle. For a change of pace and a day of city sightseeing, historic Turin (an hour) is waiting to be explored. Tour spectacular collections of decorative arts, sculpture and armour at the Palazzo Reale di Torino, see the Alps from the top of the Mole Antonelliana tower, and have a nose around the adjoining film museum. Capture the essence of the city by sipping a chocolatey ‘bicerin’ coffee in an elegant Piazza San Carlo pavement caffè, or make a night of it in the Vanchiglia district’s lively bars.
