Pitch up here for stays of many styles… Family-friendly Camping Village Mar y Sierra is in the Marche hills of the Adriatic, near the medieval towns of San Costanzo and Mondolfo and a short drive from the coast. You're well sorted here whether you want to laze around on site, get active or sightsee in the surroundings: dip into day tripping around the ancient settlements of Fano and Gradara, explore the Adriatic Sea coast road around the Natural Park of Monte San Bartolo, or bring your buckets and spades to the seaside resort of Pesaro. Lots of leisure time on site will likely be spent in the two outdoor pools, surrounded by a roomy sun terrace and – even better – a poolside hot tub. Swimming and aqua gym classes for adults and kids are held at the pools too. Other leisure facilities include a tennis court and a five a side football pitch, a playground, an indoor play area with a TV and ping pong and pool tables, a kids' club and live music events all summer long. A licensed restaurant serves regional cuisine daily, indoors or out on the spacious terrace overlooking the pools, the outdoor play area and the Marche hills beyond. Three barbecue areas are at your disposal too for alfresco family grills. Other facilities include an off-lead dog area and a newspaper delivery service (advance ordering is essential), and the site is guarded at night.

Liked: Grote rustige campingplaatsen.

Local attractions

The ancient and fab city of Fano is 20 kilometres away: set yourself up for a day’s ambling around here, for there’s rather a lot to take in including Roman walls, a 12th-century cathedral, 16th-century churches and the 14th-century Malatesta Court. If you’re a fan of the seaside, you’ll also be pleased to hear that the coast of Fano stretches across 20 kilometres and has plenty of broad arched sandy bays. A little further afield is the seaside resort of Pesaro, famed locally for its art and music heritage as well as its cracking four-kilometre beach. Gradara, around 45 minutes’ drive from base, is another postcardworthy historic hotspot to get stuck into; surrounded by 14th-century walls with towers rising up to an ancient fortress, this is the medieval village where Dante's tragedy of Paolo and Francesca took place. Right next door is the Adriatic Sea coast road around the Natural Park of Monte San Bartolo – get on the road for scenes of ancient castles surrounded by wheat fields, vineyards and olive groves.
