Local attractions
When exploring the area around Camping Gabicce Monte, it’s best to start close to home. Make the trip to Gradara, a small town 10 minutes’ drive from the site, to visit the medieval fortress of Gradara Castle and walk its walls, dive below ground in the caves under the Museo Storico, and get up close with the birds of prey at Il Teatro dell’Aria.
Get a feel for the history of this part of Marche at Colombarone, an archaeological site that has uncovered artefacts from the third century right through to the 19th, or explore Fiorenzuola di Focara Castle, Villa Caprile and Villa Imperiale, all within 30 minutes of Gabicce Monte.
If you’re craving a more urban experience, Gabicce Monte is 50 minutes from the shops, museums, galleries and restaurants of Urbino, a walled city and UNESCO World Heritage Site. Urbino was the birthplace of the Renaissance painter Raphael and you’ll see some of his works in the Galleria Nazionale delle Marche – housed in the stunning Ducal Palace – and Casa Santi, his childhood home.
If the kids are chafing at the bit, bring them for a horseback riding tour in Fiorenzuola di Focara, or just jump right to unbridled fun at one of the waterparks or theme parks nearby.
