  • A 25-minute drive from Monti Sibillini National Park; 40 from the sea
  • Outdoor pool, bike hire, playground and wooded fitness trail
Feeling frazzled? Make for the Marche hills and seek solace at Saecula Natural Village Experience, a peaceful Ascoli Piceno agritourism site. If ever you needed an excuse to sit down and chill out for a while, it’s been provided here in the form of some gorgeous rural views over the Monti Sibillini National Park – you’ll certainly be needing to pay attention to those for a little while at least... If on the other hand those peaks inspire you to get active, it’ll take around 25 minutes to drive to the park, and 40 minutes or so to get to the slopes of its ski resorts. Heading in the other direction, it’s a 40-minute drive to the coast for beaches and seaside towns. Keeping closer to home, walking trails run through the area around the site, and you can stroll up to the village of Force in around 15 minutes (a small place, but a handy one for food shops, a bar and bus stops). If that’s not enough activity, head out onto the site’s fitness trail for a workout or hire bikes for lengthy pedals along local paths. Panic not, peeps who are really in need of a rest – there’s also an outdoor pool to chill out in/by and a sizeable sun terrace to laze on (and a playground to entertain the bambini while you take time out).

Amazone 2 bedroom safari tent

Liked The tent was clean and new. The area is beautiful. The owner was friendly.

Disliked This place is odd. We were the only people on the campsite in the height of summer. The kids were very disappointed. The swimming pool, advertised on pitchup as part of the campsite, is only for use by people renting the house. There are no washing up facilities. We were told to do our washing up in the toilet block. The toilet block was clean before we arrived, but not cleaned during our stay. The showers have clear glass doors which I thought was odd for a public washroom. The group staying in the house were very noisy, partying til about 2am. The owner didn't do anything about it. And a minor thing was I didn't like the disposable paper sheets for the beds...

Local attractions

Mountainy pursuits galore are over in the Monti Sibillini National Park (25 minutes’ drive) – marked trails make navigating fairly easy for hikers, and there are also routes planned out for mountain bikers. Climbing, canyoning, rafting and hang gliding await for those seeking a little more adventure, while the ski slopes of Sarnano are 40 minutes away for those seeking snowy antics in winter. Take a break from such energetic endeavours by wandering around one of the local towns: perhaps Ascoli Piceno (40 minutes), for visits to the cathedral and ceramics and archaeology museums, or Fermo (45 minutes), a classic hill town with valley views and Roman tunnels to wander through. Another option is heading to the coast and the scenic seaside town of Pedaso (40 minutes) or San Benedetto del Tronto (an hour), where there’s a long sandy beach and a cracking (and ever-changing) collection of outdoor sculptures scattered along the Molo Sud.
