  • Seven hectares of Italian gardens, pine copses and ancient olive trees
  • Restaurant, bar, mini market and regular excursions
Pootle among Italian gardens, pine copses and ancient olive trees on the lush estate of Porticello Village, or wander down a gently sloping hill to a big private beach... or schedule it all for alternate days in this lushly pretty place by the coast. Right by the Cilento coast in the province of Salerno, Porticello Village is on a seven-hectare estate made up of many a scenic spot overlooking sea, hills and Mediterranean scrub. Ramble around to find your own peaceful spot among the olive trees (you won't have to ramble far), before a short stroll to the golden sands of the site's own beach. Camping Porticello is seven kilometres from the Campania hillside town of Camerota, on the southern and coastal edge of the Cilento and Vallo di Diano National Park. You won't have to lift a leisurely finger to arrange investigations of this splendid countryside, as regular excursions around the region are arranged by the site team. A restaurant, bar and mini market are on site for those who prefer not to lift a finger in the investigation of Italian foodstuffs too; discounted lunches and dinners are available to book.

Local attractions

The small seaside resort Marina di Camerota within easy reach of the site (just under a kilometre away) has been going strong since the mid-18th century, on a splendid spot around 15 minutes' drive from Palinuro and just under two hours south of Salerno. This is a land of lush vegetation and award-winning beaches with clear and clean water, hailed in recent years for its gay-friendly vibe. Along with Venice's Jesolo, Marina di Camerota is the only Italian settlement to have a beach officially designated for naturism: if the thought of tan lines makes you shudder, this is the sandy spot for you. For day trips and regional adventuring, the surrounding Cilento and Vallo di Diano National Park is part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site that also includes the ancient towns of Velia, 45 minutes away; the Padula Charterhouse, an hour and 10 minutes, and Paestum, within an hour and 15.
