- Secluded pod on a private terrace with stunning sea views
- A 15-minute drive to Heraklion; 20 minutes to Knossos
- Eco-friendly solar-powered accommodation with ensuite shower room
Glamping and sea views combine in one fabulous location at Glamsea, a secluded spot on a Cretan cliffside about 15 minutes’ drive from Heraklion. And what’s even better is that there’s only a single pod here, so you’ll have those views all to yourselves…
And what gorgeous views they are, looking out over the Gulf of Heraklion across the bright blue waters of the Aegean Sea towards the island of Dia (a place created by Zeus himself, no less). You’ll have plenty of lovely spots from which to take in views throughout the day too, as your private terrace has a good collection of outdoor furniture to choose from – perhaps a sun lounger for a bit of sunbathing or a hammock for an afternoon in the shade?
Drinks while you relax? The pod has a coffee maker and kettle for your morning kickstart and a fridge to keep your evening beers cool. Also inside the pod are a comfy double bed and an ensuite shower room with toilet and sink – all bedding and towels are provided to keep things nice and easy.
As this is such a stunning setting it’s no surprise to hear that the owners would like to help preserve it. With that in mind they’ve designed the place to be as eco-friendly as possible, running it entirely on solar power and providing guests with recycling facilities.
Should you be able to drag yourselves away from this spectacular retreat, there are plenty of hiking routes and bike trails nearby, or you could use this place as a base for outings to the likes of Knossos and sampling the many restaurants of Heraklion.

Local attractions
Crete is well known for its hiking and bike routes – those heading out on foot or on two wheels can expect to come across natural springs, rocky gorges, hidden coves and ancient castles. You might also be able to plan your routes to stop off at places like Douloufakis or Lyrarakis wineries (half an hour/40 minutes if you’d like to drive straight there).
At least a day in Heraklion (15 minutes’ drive) is a must, of course – it’s a great place for a stroll (punctuated with stops for coffee, cakes and snacks) and has some excellent attractions including the Archaeological Museum, the Venetian Harbour and the Historical Museum of Crete (the only place to see works by El Greco in his place of birth).
Outings beyond that might take you to the famed ruins of Knossos (20 minutes), the pretty hilltop village of Acharnes (half an hour) or the eerie abandoned village of Spinalonga (an hour and a quarter).
