It's free, quick and easy!
- Quiet semi-rural family site 10 minutes' drive from Uelzen
- Canoe rental and organised trips available on site
- Chemical-free swimming pool and snack bar with organic menu
If you’re seeking a properly family-friendly place with heaps of wholesome activities for the small sorts and peaceful times for the elders, take a peek at Uhlenköper-Camp.
Handily located a 10-minute drive from the Hanseatic city of Uelzen (for when you require shops, restaurants and other trappings of modern life), this is a place that loves its nature. Kids can spend hours splashing about in the chemical-free swimming pool, paddling in the creek or roaming about in the woodland playground.
Not quite worn them out yet? Other leisure facilities on site include a trampoline, table tennis and table football, and there’s a sports area next door with tennis courts and football field. That football field is also the location for the regular matches that put kids against their parents – often a highlight of the summertime activity programme (another being the canoe trips organised by the friendly folk on site).
As it’s likely that all these antics may return you to your pitch a touch mucky and hungry, the site’s facilities include a launderette, hot showers, a health food store and a snack bar serving up a menu of organic meals (including burgers, fries and pizzas for those of a picky persuasion).

Local attractions
Even if you’re lapping up all the nature, it’s worth leaving it all behind for a bit to have a wander around Uelzen. Hire bikes on site for a pleasant 20-minute cycle into the centre to see the old timber-framed houses and the handsome station designed by famed architect Friedensreich Hundertwasser.
Half an hour away by car is the Hosseringen open-air museum, charting how rural life has developed since the 15th century and showcasing traditional crafts like blacksmithing and beekeeping. A similar drive takes you to Hankensbüttel Otter Centre to get up close to these and other small mammals including badgers and polecats.
Up in Bad Bevensen, 20 minutes away, there’s a treetop adventure park and a spa resort with healing waters to soothe the ailments of frazzled folk.
