  • Small, quiet touring park between Munich and the Bavarian Alps
  • Sommerrodelbahn Oedberg and Seehamer Lake 10 minutes’ drive
  • Licensed shop on site; walks and bike rides along the Mangfall River
What a gorgeous spot. The overnight parking pitches at Die Bruckmühle, five minutes’ drive outside the walking hub of Valley, are surrounded by lush greenery amid the foothills of the Bavarian Alps. They are pretty convenient too, being just a few minutes’ drive from Autobahn 8 running between Munich and Salzburg, and all having electric hook-ups. Helpful amenities on-site include 24-hour self-check-in – in an old bright-red British phone box outside reception – so you’re not constrained for arriving and leaving times. There’s a small, licensed honesty shop where you can buy cold drinks, snacks and homemade pizzas 24/7, and you can also grill up family meals on the shared barbecues. Junior guests can have a workout on the wooden playground, while parents keep a beady eye on them from the covered pergola. Baby-changing rooms are located in the chalet-style guesthouse, along with modern showers. If you’re sticking around to explore this pretty alpine area for a few days, the Mangfall River runs alongside the touring park and is the starting point for many cycle rides and waterside hikes.

Local attractions

There’s lots to do with kids from Die Bruckmühle; treat them to a whizz down the summer toboggan run at Sommerrodelbahn Oedberg (10 minutes’ drive), or wander the fairy-tale themed woodland trails at BergTierPark Blindham (15 minutes), where you can also get up close to llamas and let younger kids loose at the soft-play centre. For something just a bit unusual, there are camel rides available at Bayern Kamele (also 15 minutes). Walkers can head for Seehamer Lake (10 minutes) for a hike around its periphery and a cooling dip afterwards, and golfers will be pleased to hear there’s a 27-hole course and driving range within 10 minutes’ by car. If climbing is your thing, you can practise on the indoor walls at KletterZ’ Climbing and Bouldering Centre (five minutes) before hitting the slopes in the Bavarian Alps. Check out the inspiring Neue Pinakothek and Haus Der Kunst art museums in Munich (35 minutes), and have a wander around the former Olympic Village, a paean to 1970s architecture. You can also drive to Salzburg (an hour) for the day to tour the gorgeous baroque Hellbrunn Palace, imposing hilltop Hohensalzburg Fortress and the city’s many Mozart museums.

Liked: The facilities are clean. The towns surrounding this site are absolutely stunning I couldn't get enough of the houses and the cute factor was just insane we've travelled all over Europe this summer and Germany was probably my favourite the food the beer the gorgeous setting it's just the perfect stop. There is a little river two minutes walk from the site which was beautiful

Disliked: You have to cross a busy main road to get to the toilet the camp side of their business is totally separate which is does not state this on their site bringing young children is probably not a good idea we did see multiple people pull up see the road and lack of facilities and they left, we also left a night early
