Camping Kanôpée Village: parc aquatique

General

  • Friendly and relaxed site on the banks of the Saône river
  • A 14-kilometre towpath along the river right outside the site
  • Waterpark, kids' activities and playground; bike and fishing kit hire

River or waterpark? Both are on the menu at Camping Kanôpée Village, a well-appointed park in Trévoux, on the banks of the Saône river in the scenic Ain department.

There's plenty of space to relax and take in the scenery at this park – and plenty to keep the kids busy while the grownups chill out, including that aforementioned waterpark, which has an outdoor pool and a series of waterslides (plus a large lawned area nearby that's most handy for combined sunbathing and swim supervision). Guests have free access to this area throughout July and August. Also splendidly, in high season the park’s lively entertainment team runs daily activities for junior guests – such as arts and crafts, treasure hunts and sports tournaments.

Grownups, meanwhile, can fill their leisure time at the pétanque pitch or with entertainment such as bingo nights and weekly themed evenings during high season. Fishing's available on the Saône (licences and kit can be acquired on site) and guests can hire bikes for jaunts along the riverside towpath.

If you've worked up an appetite – and a sweat – on the bike and want to freshen up before dinner, you can do so at one of three well-maintained bathroom blocks across the site. If you’re an avid email checker, then the site’s wifi service will see to it that your inbox remains in good order.

Please note

The park caters for families (immediate members) and couples only - bookings from all other forms of groups are not accepted.

The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act (i.e. Pit Bull Terrier, Japanese Tosa, Dogo Argentino, and Fila Brasileiro) and/or any of the following: Staffordshire bull terrier, American Staffordshire terrier, Rottweiler, any Mastiff or Tosa.

Your dog must be tattooed or microchipped.

Twin axle vehicles are not permitted on site.

No bachelor/bachelorette parties permitted via Pitchup.com.

Owing to government regulations, groups of 5 or more people are not permitted.

Bookings must not consist of more than 1 different households.

At least one of the party members must be aged 18 or over.

Guests under the age of 17 are not allowed on site.

The location. Right in the town of Trovoux 5 mins of the autoroute so perfect for an overnight stay. The river bike ride was lovely. We didn’t realise however that the whole town shuts on a Monday, this wasn’t mentioned anywhere in the park Information and would have been useful to know - therefore we couldn’t enjoy cascades (the local outdoor pool area) or any of the shops etc
That being said we still enjoyed our walk up to the fort and the town is simply stunning as is the amazing view. The pitches are a good size and the whole site (except shower block) was really pretty.

    Disliked:

Toilet block and showers. Really basic with no hand soap or loo roll which I found really bad especially when hand hygiene is currently so important. The whole area around the shower block was untidy full of weeds and litter. A man was strimming for a few hrs on our arrival which was annoying and his time may have been better spent tidying around shower block. It honestly looks like a prison. One shower block was not open at all.

Hello
We are happy that you found the village and the campsite very beautiful
Our sanitary facilities are equipped with hydro-alcoholic gel to disinfect your hands before and after using the toilet
Unfortunately, people throw things on the ground, we collect them every day ......

Well where do I start, so we arrived to horrendous road closures and it took us an extra 30 minutes to find the site. There were no road signs or signs for the campsite. We arrived to a dirty unkempt site which was a major disappointment. The swimming pool isn’t attached to the site as it’s a public open air pool which was closed due to Covid. The pool was drained and look an absolute mess. We were not warned of this on the website or when we arrived. My daughter was very upset as she was looking forward to a swim. During the night there was a lot of noise from campers who were running around from 9pm to 3:30am shouting and disturbing people. No security on site to stop them. Then the mosquitoes. Blimey I’ve never seen so many. AVOID AVOID AVOID THIS SITE.

From the manager...

Hello
We are sorry to read your comment
The information on the pool was indeed up to date on the pitchup.com website
During your stay, a family did not respect the neighbours by making noise
We intervened immediately and asked them to leave the next day

Advertisement on the internet and pitchup up says water park and pool on site. Due to Covid the water park was closed and the pool is 5k away at another busy campsite. We did go to the pool but it was far too busy to swim. Given the reduced facilities which was our main reason for going we felt that there should have been a reduction in the already quite expensive pitch fee. It would have been good if website and pitchup had updated page and campsite emailed us to let us know about lack of facilities and we may have looked elsewhere.

Easy to book and staff very helpful when we arrived. Facilities are clean and tidy and so is the campsite in general. This was our second time camping here and were greatly surprised to see that there was a market next to the campsite along the river and enjoyed our afternoon strolling around.

This place is the best. We really enjoyed our whole week camping. It's based in a lovely area, that we explored, enjoyed our evenings by the river, and our days in the waterpark. As can expected with any camping place next to the river in warm weather there are insects, but with a bit of repellent, you good to go!

Local attractions

The Saône river is a popular spot for anglers, and guests can procure themselves a fishing pass – as well as hire basic kit – from reception. For golfing gurus, an 18-hole golf course is around 10 minutes’ drive away. If you fancy getting into the water, there's a waterpark in Trévoux, a couple of kilometres away among a greenly scenic setting.

Pedally peeps will be pleased to learn that a 14-kilometre towpath lies right in front of the site; alternatively, if you’re more into your jumps and dirt trails, head to the Dombes plateau, 23 kilometres from base, to traverse its 16 mountain bike circuits. Two hiking trails are marked out here too if you’d rather take a slower approach.

For a city-based jaunt, UNESCO-listed Lyon is around 40 minutes’ drive away, or about an hour and a half on a bike alongside the Saône if you’re feeling particularly energetic. Stick around to sample the city’s famed gastronomy in between exploring sights such as the museum of fine arts, the spectacular hilltop church and museum of Fourvière, and the 14th-century cathedral.
