Le boredom? Not le option at family-friendly Camping Le Lac du Lit du Roi, a lakeside campsite set among the mountains, vineyards and watersports of the Ain department and with activities on land and water all around for all ages.
Water first: Le Lac du Lit du Roi is on the shores of a lake in the Bugey area (between Ain, Savoie and Haute Savoie), with a private lakeside beach, kayak hire and nearby watersports centre, and all encircled by a path for morning jogs or gentle pedals (bike hire is available on site).
Climbing, mountain biking, canyoning and horse riding are all easy to get to from here, or you could just take a (highly recommended) trip by bike or hike to the highest road pass in the Jura mountains at the Col of the Grand Colombier, for spectacular views down valley, gorges and on towards the Alps. (The scenery all around these parts comes highly recommended too.)
The site is well set up to tick most boxes for a relaxing and non-bored campsite stay, with an outdoor pool and a playground, a cyber café, wifi, and a bar-restaurant with a terrace facing the lake and its splendid watery views. Takeaway and a grocery shop are both available too.
Le Lac du Lit du Roi's team arranges all manner of activities and entertainment in low and high season, from tournaments, shows and concerts to evening barbecues and daytime kids' club. Also ask the team if you need any info on arranging guided mountain sports in the area… you'll find there's a high amount of heady activities to try.

Local attractions
Camping Le Lac du Lit du Roi's Rhône-Alpes Bugey area location between Ain, Savoie and Haute Savoie has it well placed for active days out around its vineyards, mountains and lakes, whether sticking close to site for via ferrata, canyoning, rock climbing and mountain biking trips with local guides, or venturing further afield to spectacular Lake Annecy.
To see the region's spectacular scenery at its best, take a bike ride or a hike to the highest road pass in the Jura mountains at the Col du Grand Colombier, for jaw-dropping views from its summit down the Rhône Valley, over Lake Bourget and the gorges of Val-de-Fier, and on towards the Alps peaking in the distance.
And speaking of that lake... Lake Bourget or Lac Gris at the southern end of the mountains is 20 minutes from the campsite, edged on the east by the Bauges Mountains. It's such a splendidly scenic spot that Dumas, Balzac and other literary types penned lines about its landscape: these days, you can very much do the same if so inclined, or try out the many watery activities launched from its shores before filling up at the many shoreside restaurants and bars.
