- Family-friendly site in the scenic Var countryside
- Five minutes' drive from the Côte d'Azur; Le Lavandou 10 minutes
- Playground and spacious outdoor pool with waterslides; web access
Set your sights on Camping Lou Cabasson for family-friendly stays five minutes' drive from the gorgeous Côte d'Azur coast. Set in the quiet Var countryside a couple of kilometres away from all its sandy beaches, this leafy site is well-placed for jolly jaunts both near and far (with the latter made easier by its location a few minutes from the D559).
This small-scale site also does well as far as facilities are concerned, with a sizeable outdoor pool and waterslides for all sorts of open-air swims. A bubbly jacuzzi is on hand for parents who want to keep an eye on energetic youngsters trying out different strokes in the main pool.
A similar set-up is also available on dry land: the outdoor gym is positioned within easy eyeshot of the outdoor play area, so old and young can get up to their respective activities with full peace of mind. If relaxing indoors is preferable, there's web access here for video calls with family or friends back at home.
For breakfast, fresh bread is delivered every morning from a local bakery, while lunch and dinner options are similarly convenient: Bormes-les-Mimosas (10 minutes) or Le Lavandou have a range of cafés, bars and sit-down restaurants, including a generous number serving speciality local seafood.

Local attractions
Look towards Le Lavandou (10 minutes' drive) if you fancy day trips to Port-Cros and Porquerolles islands, two of the best in the spectacular Hyères archipelago. Once back on the mainland, the town has beaches, a miniature golf course and lots of seafood spots to explore. For history nearby, there's the Fort de Brégançon (10 minutes), an old fort with impressive views that's also a handily short distance from the Château de Brégançon winery (10 minutes).
Elsewhere, away from the coast, there are natural havens like the old salt flats at Vieux Salins d'Hyères nature reserve (20 minutes) and the gorgeous Plaine des Maures (an hour), both of which deserve a full-length visit. The latter is home to wild tortoises, trails for hikers, horses and mountain bikes and has some of the finest olives, almonds and grapes around, all of which can be picked up at local markets.
Rural life fully sampled, you might like to set off to bigger cities like the old military town of Toulon (40 minutes) or the metropolis of Marseille (an hour and 20 minutes). Families will find plenty to do in both: the Tour Royale tower and old arsenal in the former and the Château d'If, land train and cake shops in the latter.
