Take your pick from woodland or sea, waterpark or old village in and around Domaine de la Bergerie in the Alpes-Maritimes. This quiet site is in the middle of a huge 700-hectare forest, and although the vibe is peaceful here, it's within 45 minutes' drive of vibrant coastal towns on the French Riviera including Cannes, Antibes and Nice. The old towns of St Paul de Vence and Vence are within a few kilometres too; for watery days away from the Riviera, the theme, water and marine park complex of Marineland, Aquasplash and Antibesland is within 30 minutes' drive (and reduced rates are available at reception). As the site is in the middle of a forest, plenty of forest walks, mountain biking trails and cycling routes start right from the grounds. Many swish facilities await on site, including the park's own hairdressing service so you can sort out your barnet (most handy if you're going to pose around Cannes for a day), an outdoor fitness area to keep everything else looking tiptop, and a full set of 12 pétanque courts. And there's yet more… Also around to keep you occupied are two fine pools, surrounded by greenery and with mountain views, a tennis court if you're feeling energetic, and – for leisurely afternoons and evenings – a terrace bar and takeaway. A shop is open from May to September to sell freshly baked bread, local produce, souvenirs, groceries, pharmaceuticals and other essentials. There are picnic tables on site for alfresco eats.

Spacious, shaded spot for a chill getaway. Staff are ripper, facilities spotless. Great pools, decent on-site grub, and a free bus to Vence are big pluses. Mostly peaceful and roomy, though some found Wi-Fi patchy and pool rules a bit full-on. Still, plenty keen to head back.

Disliked L’accueil un peu froid, les histoires avec des ampères qui sont très pénibles, le restaurant très cher ( hamburger pas super), et un des gardiens de la piscine très désagréable.

Liked By far the best campsite I've stayed on! Slept like a baby in my humble 2 man tent. The restaurant was lovely, food absolutely divine (!), swimming pools delightful with stunning backdrop.

The area whole area was outstanding, driving up the hills from the coastal motorway was stunning. Beaeutiful campsite, immaculate washing facilities, (found a piping hot shower, which makes all the difference). Pitches were set high up amongst the trees, no bites from midges for a change.

Loved the little supermarket and ordering my pain au chocolat and bread for the morning. Made my holiday.

I will definitely come back for a longer stay. Thank you!

Liked Ruimte en rust op plekken in het bovenste deel van de camping. Veel prachtige bomen waardoor genoeg schaduw.
In dit deel van de camping geen elektriciteit.

Liked No me gusto nada la organización.
Tuve que esperar más de 20 minutos tanto a la llegada como la salida para poder conectar/desconectar la clavija de corriente.

Disliked Mala organización, no me dieron plano y tuve que cambiar la parcela de la autocaravana en 3 ocasiones.

Liked • The swimming pool was clean and well-maintained.
• We appreciated the fact that there were no mosquitoes.
• The staff were attentive and helpful.
• Toilets and showers were generally clean and functional.

Disliked What could be improved:
• The electrical system was insufficient. Although I booked a 2-amp connection and upgraded to 5 amps on the first day, we still couldn’t use our toaster. Interestingly, at the campsite we’re currently staying in, we’re using the same toaster with no issues, even with a lower amperage.
• Vehicles were not allowed to enter the campsite after 11:00 PM. While we understand the need for quiet hours, we find the system too restrictive. In our current campsite, an automatic gate with a code allows entry at any time. On one of the nights during our stay, we arrived around midnight but were not let in, even though a staff member was present. I had to carry my sleeping son from the vehicle to the tent area, which was quite inconvenient.

Liked Lovely shady site with large pitches. Clean toilets and showers.

Disliked Pool closed 12.30 to 3pm when we like to go as it's hot so ended up never using it as we went out. Electric point was in a locked box so had to go searching for someone to come and open it when we wanted to leave. No decent shop considering was quite a way from a town.

Liked We liked the friendly staff. The peaceful surroundings and the clean facilities. We enjoyed a drink at the restaurant but didn't eat there. The fresh bread in the morning was brilliant.

Disliked No toilet paper in the actual toilet but on a stand at the end of the toilet block.

Liked Camping très agréable, les emplacements sont spacieux, l accueil et les 2 jeunes à l entrée d une grande gentillesse. Les sanitaires sont propres et fonctionnel. La piscine est sympa. Une navette gratuite pour se rendre à vence tres pratique. Je recommande ce camping vivement.

Local attractions

The site's setting amid a vast forest means hiking, ambling, mountain biking and cycling are all available from the grounds. You could also make your way to the local commune of St Paul de Vence five kilometres away, a medieval village atop the Plateau du Puy, with views over the surrounding hills and gardens, or to the historic town of Vence, on a rocky ledge four and a half kilometres away and with museums, galleries and easy access to spectacular walking and horse riding trails. By car, the famed Riviera town of Cannes, best known for its film festival and its celeb vibe, is within an hour's drive. The town's also home to a fine length of white sandy beach, eucalyptus groves, gourmet restaurants and food shops, and is the departure point (on the western side of the harbour) for boat trips to the nearby Lérins Islands isle of Sainte-Marguerite. Other excellent options in the area are Antibes, the port town with 16th-century ramparts, museums, cathedral, botanical gardens and narrow cobblestone streets, and Nice, the Alpes-Maritime capital at the foot of the Alps (both 40 minutes). For active adventures, go kayaking on the waters of the Loup river from La Colle-sur-Loup, 15 minutes away.
