It's free, quick and easy!
- Woodland site with fishing pond in the Vendée, close to the Yon river
- Beaches, watersports and coast walks within 40 minutes' drive
- Waterpark and zipwires within 20 minutes' drive; theme park in an hour
Fancy living like a lord in the Vendée? Here’s your moment. This green and wooded site is about three minutes’ walk from the Yon river, whose waters once powered mills around this part of France: one local squire set up camp around a mill here and Le Logis d’Aubonnière is what remains of his mini kingdom.
Little touches around the site remind you of the past: the 13th-century lodge where the reception team work, plus coats of arms and weathered stone carvings around the site. You might feel a little lordly yourself as you wander over to the fishing lake for a day’s sport…
Though simple, the facilities are fit for a king: the spacious, clean washrooms have big sinks and opening windows, the showers pump out plentiful hot water and include access for disabled guests.
Take a short stroll from the site to wander the forested Yon valley, or head 10 minutes by car to Le Champ-Saint-Père for shops, eats and river picnics. If some members of your party are chasing bigger thrills, it's a 20-minute drive to the zipwires, water jumps and paintball battle zones of Indian Forest and about the same to the slides, chutes and flumes at O’gliss waterpark.

Local attractions
If you want to carry on feeling historical, it’s an hour’s drive to the theme park of Puy du Fou, where live shows and exhibits bring Vikings, jousting knights, rioting revolutionaries and Roman gladiators to life. If wildlife’s more your thing, the complex includes a trail-filled nature reserve you can wander alongside fallow deer, eagles and wolves.
Real waves are within easy reach: it’s around half an hour to the beaches of La Tranche-sur-Mer and 40 minutes to Jard and Longueville, all with wide sands, big dunes and watersports aplenty.
If you’re interested in exploring the waters inland, head half an hour to Talmont-Saint-Hilaire to canoe and kayak the Payré river; or an hour to the leisure park at Mervent for river stuff plus hiking and mountain biking.
Nature abounds in this area where rivers meet with sea in marshes and wetlands: the national nature reserve of Saint-Denis-du-Payré (25 minutes) is a top spot to spot godwits, lapwings and peregrines while Esnandes, an hour away is a hub for exploring the bay of Aiguillon’s diverse coastal ecosystem.
