- Tree-lined five-hectare site next to the Nantes-Brest canal
- On the edge of Guenrouet; a 45-minute drive from Saint-Nazaire
- On-site fishing, games room, pétanque court, food shop and restaurant
Why Camping Saint-Clair, you ask? For starters, there's the fact that this leafy Guenrouet site is right next to the Nantes-Brest canal. And then, there's its size (five whole hectares, to be precise) – in these roomy, well-kept grounds, there's ample space for one and all to pitch up (and yes, that can include the dog).
Fancy getting out on waterside explores? This site is a few metres from the water's edge, so kayaking or canoeing are on the cards for those that are up for watery splashing (and there’s always cycling and strolling along the towpath for those that aren't).
Back on site, there are all sorts of leisure facilities to keep you and your brood entertained – sporty folk can play table tennis, pétanque or go for a jog, while those who fancy a bit of chillout time can sip a drink on the terrace or head to the TV or games rooms. For the tots, there's a play area where they can clamber and climb in a friendly and safe environment.
Time for eats? Barbecues are allowed here, and there's a nifty on-site shop for self-organised bites. There's also a fab restaurant where you can leave the cooking (and washing up) in the capable hands of Camping Saint-Clair's staff. Guenrouet also has a handful of brill bistros within walking distance if you fancy stepping out and sampling the local grub.

Local attractions
Hot-foot it down to Solokart go-karting course (10 minutes' drive) if your need for speed isn't quite fulfilled by the Nantes-Brest canal – lovely though it is, life on the water often moves at a pretty relaxed pace. That's not always the case, though, as the enthusiastic instructors at Plessé watersports centre (10 minutes) will tell you – here you can get active on the lake, or bring things down a gear and head for a nap on the next-door beach.
Though lakeside beaches are a very fine thing, there's something special about the sea. For that, the coast at La Baule is within easy reach (45 minutes) – head to this swish resort for nine kilometres of sandy beach, classy hotels and boardwalks along the Atlantic coast. For a seaside spot with a very different vibe, head to Saint-Nazaire (45 minutes) – the main draw here is the town's naval history, which can be explored in several top-rated museums.
Seeking landscapes that'll soothe your soul? Brière Regional Natural Park has oodles of footpaths and mountain biking trails to get stuck into (30 minutes). Handily, bikes can be hired in Guenrouet.
