  • Quiet family-friendly Lot region camping in Saint-Pierre-Lafeuille
  • A 15-minute drive to Cahors, and 50 minutes to Rocamadour
  • Swimming pool, games room and weekly events, plus a shop and snack bar
There are fantastic views over hilly countryside from spacious and shaded grass pitches at Camping Les Graves – and that gives you something of a hint that this peaceful 17-acre site at Saint-Pierre-Lafeuille makes a convenient base for active types looking for hiking and mountain-biking adventures in the rural Lot region. This is a quiet countryside spot, but there are lots of facilities on site to provide atmosphere and entertainment. Daily life revolves around the outdoor pool, which has far-reaching views from the terrace, and a paddling pool where the youngsters can splash around. And with a billiard room, pétanque court and games room here too, it’s easy to find something to fill every waking moment (but if all you want to do is absolutely nothing but snooze, then of course that’s OK too…) Should you wish, you can mingle with fellow campers, either at pre-dinner aperitifs on Tuesday evenings or at the Thursday evening dinners, when the site owners conjure up a communal meal showcasing local ingredients. At other times, simple and tasty produce is served all day at the peak-season snack bar. There’s also a small shop stocked with essentials, a bread-order service and a picnic area where you can eat your goodies. Facilities are managed on sustainable lines too, with low-energy bulbs in the outdoor lighting and aerators on taps to reduce water consumption. The reward for this eco-friendly stewardship? Birdsong is heard all over the site, and you can often see butterflies, rabbits and deer going about their daily business.

Liked: We very much liked the remoteness without it being to remote. Cahors was 10 minute drive which has everything you could need for your stay then pop back to the site which was peaceful and quiet. There were restaurants minutes drive away which looked amazing. The pitches were a good size with electricity. We unfortunately did not have a hookup converter but the owner did and was more than happy to help and lend us one free of charge. The wash facilities were nice and clean as was the small on sight pool. The views to the rear of the site are amazing where there is a couple of picnic benches where you can watch the sun go down with a lovely glass of wine which the owner has many bottles of and are really reasonable. The smell from the kitchen was superb and the duck he cooked looked like something from a top notch restaurant. I would definitely recommend this site to anyone travelling to the area. We will definitely be going back.

Disliked: Seriously there was nothing to dislike about this site.

Liked: Stunning scenery, quiet and friendly atmosphere, and great facilities. The sunsets and shooting stars are some of the best we've seen. The pool is great and the food is basic but well prepared. Excellent shower and toilet block, nice cafe and little but well stocked shop. Can't wait to return.

Disliked: Nothing at all.

Local attractions

Picture-perfect Cahors (15 minutes’ drive) beckons with its medieval centre, the fortified Valentré Bridge spanning the Lot river, and 12th-century Saint-Étienne Cathedral, known for its blue-tiled domes and peaceful cloisters. Other local sights to seek out include the pretty towns of Luzech (25 minutes) and Puy-l'Évêque (35 minutes), bordering the Lot river and crammed with historic churches, grand châteaux and cobbled squares lined with cafés. Foodies can visit the gourmet delis in tiny Rocamadour (50 minutes), clinging to a near-vertical cliffside, or buy Quercy black truffles in Lalbenque (half an hour). If wine’s your thing, follow the Cahors Malbec Trail for vineyard tours and tastings. When the kids deserve a treat, take them to the Jardin des Sens in Castelfranc (half an hour) for strolls around the whimsical sculpture park, or head underground at the Grottes Préhistoriques de Cougnac (35 minutes) to spot prehistoric cave paintings. To up the outdoor activity, go wild swimming in the Lot, follow the Le Chemin des Prieurs circular walk from Catus (20 minutes), or explore the Lot Valley on mountain bikes.
