What a lot there is to like about this Lot region glampsite – Village de Montmarsis is a place that’s really gone all out to get everything just right for fab family hols.
This smart and spacious site gets a good head start with the excellent location: it’s easily accessed from the A20 (just a few kilometres away) and an easy 10-minute stroll from the shops and restaurants in the pretty centre of Gourdon. All in all, a most handy spot in which to spend Dordogne days.
On top of that, the units here are kitted out with pretty much everything you need for a comfy break: each one has beds, a swish bathroom, a flatscreen telly, a fully-equipped kitchen and a washing machine (a very useful thing for those planning to travel light). The indoor/outdoor lifestyle is sorted here with a living space that spreads out onto a covered terrace for alfresco meals and chillout time.
That leaves you only to provide the food and drinks (which can be picked up at the shops and supermarket in town), but if you’d prefer to pass cooking tasks on to someone else the site also has its own bar and restaurant.
And that’s still not all… there’s greenery and lawns all around the accommodation, so plenty of space for kids to run about and play. The park has a good pile of facilities to keep everyone busy too, including a tennis court, pétanque court, football field, volleyball court, table tennis and a playground, plus an open-air pool for cooling dips.

Local attractions
Go down to Gourdon for your supplies, by all means, but it’s worth planning a bit of time to wander around the fortified village too, taking in its medieval centre and gateways. Follow up with strolls around Sarlat-la-Canéda (half an hour’s drive), which has plenty to see among its more than 250 listed buildings, and a trot around the castle and famed stairway of Rocamadour (40 minutes). Even more ancient than all of those are the prehistoric paintings daubed on the walls of the Grottes de Cougnac (five minutes’ drive).
Need something a bit more active? Try bounding across the inflatables at AquaMonkey waterpark (five minutes), saddling up for horseback outings (five minutes) or hikes along the trails in the Causses du Quercy Regional Natural Park (20 minutes).
If you’ve got nippers along for the ride, you may also like to try a day at Monkey Forest animal park (40 minutes); if not, the wineries of the Cahors region beckon (45 minutes).
