  • Dog-friendly site 10 minutes’ drive from the Gorges du Tarn
  • In Mostuéjouls, next to a beach alongside the river Tarn
  • Pool, games room, grocery corner, games and a bar with a terrace
Are you tracking down the gorgeous UNESCO-listed Gorges du Tarn or simply looking for a low-key break somewhere in Aveyron? For two in one, make your way to Camping de L’Aubigue, a dog-friendly site just 10 minutes’ drive away from Gorges du Tarn. It’s in Mostuéjouls, a small collection of houses, cobbled streets and a castle, and right at the foot of a beach on the Tarn river. The site is family-friendly indeed. There are kids’ games and a games room for the simple types of entertainment. Grown-ups and kids alike should like the terrace by the non-alcoholic bar and the swimming pool with two sections. The area’s lovely for outdoor activities, whether that be bathing, canoeing, fishing, hiking or trying out the via ferrata route within walking distance of the site. Some of those are likely to spark your appetite, so it’s always going to be handy that there’s a grocery corner at the reception, a bread shop on site. The site is also just half an hour’s drive from the shops in Le Rozier, which include a grocery shop and butchers, as well as shops selling fishing tackle and a bar. As for the other handy facilities around this place, there are washing machines, fridges for hire and toilet and shower blocks with a baby corner, baby bathtub and a nappy changing table. There’s also a sink and wastewater emptying area.

What customers say

Riverside campsite's chill vibes, ample sites & top staff get a nod. Pool's a ripper, close to shops. Drains could be spiffier, but most reckon it's a grouse spot for a yarn and regional exploring.

Power optional grass and earth site

Liked The views. Absolutely beautiful setting. The river & mountains make this site. Also lots of trees so plenty of shade as it was 36°c when we were there. Helpful staff.
It has a pool & play area.

Disliked The disarray of pitches. They are supposed to be marked out but its a free for all & not great. Someone staying there helped us.
The site is very unkempt with old dilapidated caravans here & there, broken furniture, rubble etc. The facilities are very run down & smelly. Nothing felt clean, bugs everywhere. No toilet seats, loo paper or soap. Ino this used to be a normal thing with French sites but alot have now updated & got with the times. I will never understand how providing the bare minimum ie loo seats is still not taken on.
This site has so much potential to be top class...it just needs updating & a good tidy/clean up

Power optional grass and earth site

Liked Heel gezellige camping. Mooie staanplaatsen onder de bomen aan een riviertje. Sanitair is wat verouderd maar heel proper. Zwembad is goed verkoelend en heel schoon. Eigenaar heel vriendelijk.
Een echte aanrader!

Local attractions

Whether for a sunrise or a short and sweet stroll, count upon some impressive views from Rocher de Capluc (45 minutes’ walk), a rocky platform in the local slopes. Millau (25 minutes’ drive) has some excellent scenery too, set in a vast green valley. Historic sites, anyone? There are troglodyte hamlets remaining across the Gorges du Tarn; head to Églazines (ruines semi-troglodytiques) (10 minutes) for that. The medieval village of Compeyre (15 minutes) is just splendid for a wander with a healthy dose of history and lots of options for a glass of wine due to its thriving wine industry. Castle Peyrelade (10 minutes) is an impressive spot for history too. The ruined hilltop medieval castle has a dungeon carved into the rock and views over a valley. And what about a visit to the ruined settlement of Caves d'Entre-Deux-Monts (15 minutes) or Ermitage Saint-Michel (20 minutes), a small ruin surrounded by bright green forestry? Both are sure to get your mind wandering about what happened there in times gone by.
