- Peaceful family-friendly site with stunning views of the Pyrénées
- Animal park within 10 mins' drive; pool and river swims within 15
- Playground, campfires, crafting, small shop and bar with snacks
In a green valley, with a creek flowing through the site and views of the Pyrénées and the Mounts of Cantal on clear days… this is where peaceful hols start.
At Camping Moulin de Liort – a family-friendly site five minutes’ drive from the small Midi-Pyrénées town of La Salvetat-Peyralès – swims in the creek, blissful hours sipping coffee or wine (or nibbling on snacks) on the bar terrace, and high-season hikes, farm visits and crafting days will all add up to a laidback stay.
There’s a small shop on site to take care of self-catering needs like fresh veg, bread, eggs (from the site’s flock of chickens), homemade jams and juices, and plenty of wine – and days spent wandering the local markets won’t be wasted if sampling the local delicacies (cheeses, sausages and even more wine) is high on the list of priorities.
Without kids in tow (or with kids well used to lengthy walks), getting out into the hilly countryside around the site is a must – hikes are organised by the site team during the high season, and the hikes and bike rides of Causses de Quercy regional nature park are 45 minutes away for adventures en famille.

Local attractions
If creek swims aren’t living up to expectations or more space is needed for splashing about, there are other options nearby: a 15-minute drive to the village of La Garde Viaur is recommended for river swims and, if the currents are a worry, a public pool is 15 minutes' drive away in Rieupeyroux.
The Viaur valley is particularly scenic and there are lots of ways to explore it; try something a little different by hiring a canoe or kayak in Najac and floating along past castles and stunningly pretty villages. The same can be done on the mighty Aveyron with canoe and kayak rental in Saint-Antonin-Noble-Val, an hour from base.
This part of the Aveyron department is known for its bastides (fortified towns) and there are plenty hereabouts worth a visit: Villefranche-de-Rouergue, Sauveterre-de-Rouergue and La Bastide-l’Évêque within half an hour are must-stops for winding streets, ageing castles and local markets.
History buffs have plenty round here to pique their interest… If the bastides aren’t doing the job, Château du Bosc (childhood home of famed artist Toulouse-Lautrec) is 30 minutes away and the museum of Ségala’s agricultural traditions is just 10 minutes from the site – right next to the Pradinas animal park, if meeting wolves and bears more tickles the fancy.
