It's free, quick and easy!
- Tiny site in the peaceful Pyrénées Ariégeoises Regional Natural Park
- Surrounded by hiking, cycling and nature trails
- Two barbecues, playground and tennis court
Shall you sleep well at Les Chalets d’Alzen? It’s likely you shall indeed. There’s plenty of peace and quiet to be had at this teeny little mountain resort, where noisy distractions are kept to a minimum and nights are spent in comfy real double beds.
Also aiding the pursuit of serene slumbers are the days you’ll likely be spending hiking and/or biking your way around the viewsome surrounds – there are lots of fab routes through the Pyrénées Ariégeoises Regional Natural Park, with wildlife and waterfalls to see as you wander. Still not quite ready for the land of nod? Perhaps swing by the microbrewery that’s a handy 10-minute stumble from site for a nightcap.
Should you arrive back at base with energy to burn, there’s a tennis court for batting a few balls about, and a playground for the small sorts to clamber on. Eats can be prepared in your own kitchen for cosy nights in, or out on the communal barbecues if it’s an alfresco feasting kind of day.

Local attractions
Bring your hiking boots or mountain bike along and the friendly folks on site will happily point you in the direction of suitable routes through the surrounding Pyrénées Ariégeoises Regional Natural Park – perhaps a nature trail noted for sightings of deer, a foraging route for those in search of wild berries and mushrooms, or a waterfall hike.
If your preferred method of exercise involves swinging a club around, there’s an 18-hole golf course around 20 minutes’ drive from the site, with lessons on offer for those who haven’t got the knack yet.
A gentle 10-minute walk from the park is the Alzen Ecomuseum, where exhibitions and workshops tell the story of the area’s farming past, present and future. Also worth a visit nearby are the ancient Château de Foix, the 500-metre-long Mas d'Azil Cave, and the reptile farm at La Bastide-de-Sérou. All are within a half-hour drive.
