You can enjoy thoroughly good food along with the spectacular scenery at Limousin’s Le Mas d’Ayen. This leafy campsite in the Corrèze hills is new in 2025, and offers a peaceful retreat from everyday life with stunning views of forested hills and green meadows where Limousin cows graze in the shade of walnut trees.
Each pitch is surrounded by loads of greenery for extra privacy and equipped with an electrical hook-up; water is available at various points throughout the site. Up to two friendly dogs are welcome per pitch, just be sure to keep them on a lead while on site.
Handy facilities include a pristine modern shower block, washing-up sinks and a launderette. There’s also an outdoor swimming pool, with a deck for snoozing in the sun.
Up at the main house, the pretty courtyard restaurant has tables surrounded by fragrant lavender and rosemary bushes; here the owners serve up seasonal table d’hôte menus, showcasing local ingredients, on Tuesday, Friday and Sunday. Please book in advance to minimise food waste.
The gorgeous local village of Ayen (five minutes’ drive) has traditional limestone houses and medieval walls; here you can do any grocery shopping in the supermarket, use the library or have lunch in the local bistro. There is also a pharmacy, petrol station and post office.

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.- The campground/park does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act (i.e. Pit Bull Terrier, Japanese Tosa, Dogo Argentino, and Fila Brasileiro) and/or any of the following: Staffordshire bull terrier, American Staffordshire terrier, Rottweiler, any Mastiff or Tosa.
- No hen/stag parties permitted via Pitchup.com.
- The outdoor swimming pool is open between 15/05 and 15/09 (subject to weather conditions).
- Twin axle vehicles are not permitted on site.
- No cars/motorbikes by the pitch/unit. All cars must be parked in the designated area.
- Units longer than 6 metres are not allowed.
- This is a quiet campground/park: no music is allowed.
- Please note that the toilet/shower facilities are unisex.
- No charcoal barbecues allowed.

All facilities were clean and well maintained.

Liked What a amazing place.
The owners were so welcoming and where always there to assist.
There was bread made to order onsite.
3 times a week there is a sit-down meal at very reasonable rates, so you are able to get to know your fellow campers.
We can not wait to return.

Local attractions
This rural corner of the Corrèze has no shortage of walking routes in the area. One of the best takes you along quiet country lanes to Saint-Robert (45 minutes’ walk), designated one of Les Plus Beaux Villages de France. It’s chock-full of medieval manor houses and Romanesque churches, all overlooked by a vast abbey that peers out over the surrounding valleys and woodland.
Fancy a foray into the Dordogne? Head for Montignac (35 minutes’ drive) to visit the sleek, modern Lascaux International Center of Parietal Art, showcasing replicas of prehistoric paintings found in nearby caves. Further south is old-world Sarlat-la-Canéda (55 minutes), with cobbled streets lined with terrace bars, higgledy-piggledy medieval houses and churches.
Back at base camp, Ayen (five minutes) holds a “Marché des Producteurs de Pays” every Thursday in July and August. If your dates coincide, you can feast on the best of regional produce from the stalls, buying salads and fries along with meat to grill on the communal barbecue. Sample Corrèze wines, enjoy the live music and dance the night away with the locals.
