- Family-friendly Argelès-sur-Mer site five minutes' walk from the beach
- A 15-minute drive from the birds at Mas Larrieu Natural Reserve
- Heated infinity pool, paddling pool, multisports field and snack bar
With a name like Camping La Plage, could it just be that this Languedoc-Roussillon site is somewhere near the beach? Why, yes it could indeed: Argelès-sur-Mer’s central sandy stretch is in fact a mere five-minute stroll away.
The climate in this part of the country is a particularly pleasing one: the area usually tots up around 300 days of sunshine per year. With any luck that should mean some fine weather for days spent trotting back and forth to the beach, or settling down at the sun terrace for some time sunbathing and splashing in the infinity pool and paddling pool (they’re both heated, just in case things take a turn for the chillier…)
More hours out in the open air? Get competitive at the multisports field, ping pong table or pétanque court, supervise the nippers at the playground or just take a wander around the fab flower-filled gardens. When you’re done with all such activity, there are pizzas, drinks and light bites to snaffle at the snack bar, or you could mosey into town for restaurants, shops, bars and clubs – they’re all just a few minutes away on foot.
It’s not just on the leisure front that the facilities here are fab: there’s also a handy list of essentials including wifi, a laundry room and bathrooms with nifty extras like baby changing tables. To help you lessen your load as you travel, various kit (think TVs, sheets, towels, cribs and baby chairs) is available to rent on site.

Local attractions
Well, you’ll no doubt start at the beach – and a fine choice that is too as it’s nearly seven kilometres long, with rockpools, watersports and supervised swimming areas to its name. Venture inland for a five-minute drive instead to hit the Old Town of Argelès-sur-Mer, preserved in the traditional Catalan style and with lots of narrow little streets to poke about in.
For more on the urban front, take a trip to arty seaside town Collioure (10 minutes’ drive) or mosey around the medieval centre of Perpignan (20 minutes); the Palace of the Kings of Majorca, the cathedral and the Castillet gateway are all worth seeking out here too.
If you’re more in the mood for outdoorsy days, get set for animal encounters at Les Aigles de Valmy bird park (five minutes’ drive), the kid-friendly Discovery Farm Saint-André (10 minutes) or the Mas Larrieu Natural Reserve (15 minutes), home to herons, bee-eaters and other bird life. Open-air thrills should be on the cards at Luna Park theme park, or with a canyoning day at Paradise Aventure (both 10 minutes).
