- Family-friendly site a short walk from the beach in Valras-Plage
- An hour's drive from medieval Carcassonne
- Huge 500 m² waterpark and lots of kids' activities in summer
What a whole heap of watery fun there is at Sandaya Camping Les Vagues – if your small sorts (or indeed the elders) are the type that can happily splash about for hours on end, you’ve come to the right place.
The pool area here is not just any old pool; it’s a roomy 500 m² waterpark with waterslides, fountains, underwater massage jets, aqua gym classes and heated waters in the main pool and paddling pool. Should you tire of all this aquatic activity, you can slope off to the sun loungers on the palm-fringed poolside beach area, or trot along the footpath for 10 minutes or so to get to the real-life sandy beach.
There are landlubbing activities aplenty here too – a playground, miniature golf, multisports court, table tennis and pétanque court should keep everyone amused for a while, and there’s a busy kids’ club programme in summer, divided into three age groups.
No need to stray far from all this for eats, as there’s a snack bar, a takeaway service and a restaurant with a brasserie menu and a poolside terrace for ice creams, coffees and cocktails. The mini market is well stocked with fresh and frozen foods, and there are fresh pastries and bread to munch every morning.
Tear yourselves away from the site’s swaying palms and you’re a short walk from the centre of Valras-Plage, a top spot for visiting the beaches, châteaux and vineyards of the Languedoc-Roussillon region.

Local attractions
The beach in front of Les Vagues runs all the way up to the centre of Valras-Plage, where you’ll find plenty of watersports centres offering sailing lessons, jetskis and the like.
If you fancy stretching the legs on a leisurely walk, a recommended route nearby takes you along the banks of the UNESCO-listed Canal du Midi, built in the 17th century under the reign of Louis XIV. You can cycle along the flat paths too, hiring bikes on site if you like.
Travel far enough along the Canal du Midi and you’ll reach Béziers (or you could drive there in 20 minutes or so). After visiting the nine canal locks and the medieval bridge, wandering around the Bishop’s Gardens and climbing to the clifftop cathedral you’ll have earned a glass of wine from one of the wineries dotted around the place.
For more historically-inspired wanderings, head to Carcassonne, an hour’s drive away, to walk around the fortified ramparts and visit the medieval Château Comtal.
