- On the edge of the Narbonnaise en Méditerranée regional park
- A 25-minute drive to Narbonne and Béziers; Canal du Midi 3km away
- Sauna, wifi and takeaway food; swimming pool and tennis open in summer
Have yourself a happy hol in the hinterlands of Hérault with a trip to Camping Le Domino, in a green setting on the edge of the Narbonnaise en Méditerranée Natural Regional Park. This Occitanie site, which has a swimming pool open in the summer months, is also a half an hour’s drive from sandy beaches lapped by the Mediterranean Sea for swims at any time of the year.
The area is known for its varied landscape – as well as beaches, there are gorges, mountains, countryside and canals to explore, and walks can take you through local pastures scented with thyme, rosemary, lavender, sage and mint, or scenic scrublands dotted with olive trees and oaks. (Fairweather strollers will also be pleased to hear that this area gets an average of 300 days of sunshine a year.)
More taken by tennis than trekking? Set up a tournament using Camping Le Domino’s facilities (open in high season), then soothe any aching muscles in the heat of the sauna. Refuel with dishes from the park’s takeaway service or sit and browse the wifi while snacking on French fare from the shops of Nissan-lez-Enserune, just over a five-minute drive away.
When you can tear the kids away from the play area, travel three kilometres to a section of the 240-kilometre Canal du Midi for day trips; the site is also midway between the historic towns of Béziers and Narbonne (around 25 minutes’ drive).

Local attractions
Tour the ancient town of Narbonne (20 minutes’ drive) on the Canal de la Robine, making sure to tick off the Gothic Cathédrale Saint-Just et Saint-Pasteur – started in the 13th century but never fully finished – and the opulent Archbishop's Palace with its archaeology and art displays.
Sights in this settlement are below ground as well: delve under the earth’s surface to the Horreum, a series of age-old warehouses, to learn about the town’s time as a Roman port.
Another urban area to chuck on the itinerary is Béziers (25 minutes) for wanders through ancient streets and French-style gardens. This town also has a cathedral to sate cultural types and an amusement park for adventurers.
Keen to bask on the beach? Set forth for Saint-Pierre-la-Mer (30 minutes), a seaside town surrounded by stretches of sand; to idle inland, gentle walks are to be had around Gouffre de l'Oeil-Doux, a pretty limestone chasm overlooking a green pool, and the centre of the trail-packed Narbonnaise en Méditerranée Natural Regional Park (both 35 minutes).
