Head to Camping Les Roches d'Agde in the Hérault region and there's a strong chance that things will go swimmingly. When not dipping your toes in the Med (20 minutes' walk away), there's a whole load of green surrounds and cool activities to dive into at this family-friendly spot.
Active sorts may want to avail themselves of the sporty options at Camping Les Roches d'Agde: there's a good-sized outdoor pool, a volleyball area and a badminton court (equipment can be picked up at reception). Fancy swanning around the bike trails that crisscross this part of France, or perhaps pedalling along the Canal du Midi? Camping Les Roches d'Agde hires out handy two-wheelers for just that.
There's also a poolside bar where you can sit after (or in lieu of) all that exertion. Swing by here in the morning to pick up fresh bread or grab some breakfast bites. Things get a bit livelier down here in the evening, particularly in high season when there are regular site theme nights (paella evening and karaoke, anyone?).
This well-connected spot is properly plugged into the local transport network: the speedy D612 road is a few minutes' drive away, and there's a bus stop a few dozen metres from the site entrance. Have to stop off at the hypermarché? That'll be five minutes by car.

Local attractions
Agde (five minutes' drive) is a top tourist town with a historic centre and plenty of options for strolls along some of the 240 kilometres of the Canal du Midi. This well-preserved waterway is home to the round lock (10 minutes), a rather special sluice that dates way back to the 17th century. The nearby castle ramparts and volcanic rock buildings of the old town (five minutes) are also well worth an explore.
Kids visiting the area and who feel the need for a little non-architectural stimulation might fancy a jaunt to Dino World Cap d'Agde (10 minutes), a jurassic-themed theme park with a play area, splash zone and larger than life animatronic models. Critters of the non-extinct sort can also be perused at Cap d'Adge's aquarium (10 minutes).
Spreading your holiday wings and getting out to other southern French seaside spots is also an option – Sète, with its old port vibes and swing bridges, is 35 minutes' drive away; the old fishing town of Marseillan is 10. On the off chance that you get a bit ocean fatigued, there's also the botanical gardens at Jardin de Saint Adrien (30 minutes) to bring you back to terra firma.
