It's free, quick and easy!
- Family site among vineyards, half an hour from the Mediterranean
- Close to Sommières and the cycling paths of the Vidourle valley
- Pool, playground, trampoline, games room, food shop and bar
If, by some faint chance, you tire of exploring the Gard vineyards, cycle routes, horse riding trails, fishing and climbing around Camping Le Pré Saint-André, hit the beach instead: Mediterranean shores are about half an hour's drive from here.
A family-friendly site, Le Pré Saint-André is surrounded by vineyards, just outside Souvignargues and four kilometres from the medieval town of Sommières, in the Vidourle river valley between Montpellier and Nimes. There's loads to do on site too: in summer the team here arranges events such as themed meals and music evenings on site where you can meet other guests – or you could just mingle around the handsome sandy terrace of the bar…
Leisure facilities for all ages are to hand, at the pool and paddling pool, pétanque court, volleyball court, playground, trampoline, and games room with table football, table tennis, billiards and arcade games. A range of hiking and cycling trails is around the site; bike hire is available.
Le Pré Saint-André also has a restaurant (high season only), a takeaway and a food shop.

Local attractions
If you're up for tackling some French fishing, cast off in the Vidourle river a kilometre away, flowing through the nearby town of Sommieres, or at the Lez, the main river crossing Montpellier. (Can't be faffed? Pick up fresh fish and other produce at the famed Sommieres market on Saturday mornings, held in the town since the 13th century, or at the outdoor market on Wednesday evenings.)
Hire a bike on site and use the cycling map from the Sommieres tourist office to pedal the Voie Verte route along the disused railway line from Sommieres to Caveirac. The Voie Verte intersects with several other cycling and walking trails; details of all can be found on the Sommieres tourist office maps.
The Roc de Massereau, five kilometres away, is a tree climbing and zipline adventure park with activities high up as well as in the water. Paddlleboarding, racing, workshops, events and nature spotting are all available here, with courses and help for all ages and abilities.
Several vineyards are within 15 kilometres of Sommieres; golf courses within 25 kilometres, and canyoning and climbing in the Cévennes National Park within 40. Montpellier and the seaside resort of La Grande-Motte are also 40 kilometres away.
