When all you long for is peace and quiet in gorgeous Gard countryside, head for Dolce Vita, a tiny rural site for (small) campervans with just a couple of grass pitches tucked into woodland on the outskirts of the pretty village of Saint-Laurent-le-Minier. As this site is adults-only, chances are it will stay peaceful for the duration of your stay too. Electricity and water are part of the deal here, along with hikes direct from the pitches – you can walk up to the spectacular Vis Waterfall in half an hour – as well as a communal barbecue and a small swimming pool for cooling dips. Dogs are welcome on site by the way, as long as you let the owners know you’re bringing them ahead of arrival. There are a couple of eateries in Saint-Laurent-le-Minier (along with occasional Friday-night entertainment). There are bistros and takeaways in Ganges (15 minutes’ drive) as well as a big supermarket for picking up supplies. Les Accros d'Anjeau, an adventure park with treetop obstacle courses, is 20 minutes' drive away.

Vehicles

  • Commercial vehicles (vehicles used for work-related purposes, carrying goods or fare-paying passengers) and sign-written vehicles are not permitted on site.
  • Units longer than 5 metres are not allowed.

Safety

  • Fires, barbecues and/or firepits will not be permitted in dry, windy and/or hot weather conditions.
  • No gas barbecues allowed.

Dogs

  • The campground/park does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act (i.e. Pit Bull Terrier, Japanese Tosa, Dogo Argentino, and Fila Brasileiro) and/or any of the following: Staffordshire bull terrier, American Staffordshire terrier, Rottweiler, any Mastiff or Tosa.
  • Your dog must be tattooed or microchipped.

Reception

  • There is no reception building on-site: on arrival please contact the number provided on your booking confirmation.

Admission

  • Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.
  • The maximum unit size allowed is 2.3 x 5 metres. Small campervans only as the entrance to gate is narrow.

As well as walks up to the impressive cascade at Vis Waterfall (half an hour’s stroll), local hiking areas include the Aven Sales (15 minutes’ drive), where you can explore hidden caves in moss-encrusted woodland. Take to the river and go white-water rafting on the Hérault River (20 minutes), or content yourselves with a refreshing dip in the river at the landmark Pont de Saint-Étienne d’Issensac (40 minutes). There are a couple of golf courses within 20 minutes’ drive, and cycling along a Voie Verte greenway that takes in the Promenade du Viaduc (90 minutes by bike). Ancient-history aficionados can explore the dolmen at Planas (35 minutes’ drive) and the stone circle at Cromlech de Peyrarines (25 minutes), or discover the partially remodelled Stone Age houses at Cambous (35 minutes). To see a natural phenomena that is many, many millennia old, go underground to explore the stunning subterranean caverns at the Grotte des Demoiselles (25 minutes).
