- Small luxury site with pool and views of Mont Ventoux
- Within half an hour's drive of Aven d'Orgnac caves and Uzès markets
- Breakfast served on private terraces, table d’hôte courtyard dining
Sweet tooth? ImagineFrance is half an hour’s drive from the Musée Haribo (yes, those Haribos), an absolute must for anyone with tendencies towards tasty treats.
If that sounds a bit niche, panic not, for this small and luxurious site in Languedoc-Roussillon is surrounded by forested hills with views towards Mont Ventoux, and a 10-minute drive from the pretty Provencal town of Goudargues.
This is the right place too for those whose tastes extend beyond chewy sweets, for host Polly, is a kitchen wizard, dishing up breakfasts for you to have (with side servings of cracking country views) on your private terrace, at the table d’hôte in the courtyard of an evening, or on a five-course private dining evening... sweet.
Just as well there’s a swimming pool to do a few lengths on, along with shady loungers if it all gets a bit too strenuous. Down in Goudargues, you can zap a few thousand extra calories by hiring canoes on the La Cèze river, or if you’ve really overdone it on the desserts, make like a Tour de France champ and do the climb up Mont Ventoux, just under two hours’ drive away.

Local attractions
As well as being a magnet for bonbon buffs, the town of Uzès half an hour away is famed for its midweek and Saturday markets, where you can fill your boots (and even car boots) with local olives, cheese and sausage.
Flowers are on sale at the market too; if you’re after a pot or two to put them in, the village of Saint-Quentin-la-Poterie also half an hour away has some 20 ceramicists busily churning original and traditional numbers out in their workshops. (Good present for Gran, especially if you’ve eaten all the cheese…)
For wanderings away from town and under the earth, make for Aven d’Orgnac (half an hour) to tour the network of limestone caverns and prehistoric caves; there are further geological attractions among the rippling underground halls of the Saint Marcel caves and under the natural bridge of Pont d’Arc (both 50 minutes). Don't miss out on stuff above ground, either: the gorges of the Ardèche river are terrific terrain for hiking, horse riding and river rafting, and dotted with lookout points for prizewinning views and photos.
If you want even more altitude after that, zipwire your way through the trees at St-Julien-de-Peyrolas (half an hour), or cross the 160-foot Roman aqueduct of Pont du Gard, 45 minutes away.
