- Verdant Aude site 15 minutes’ drive from Réserve Africaine de Sigean
- Plage Port La Nouvelle and sailing from Port Mahon 15 minutes’ drive
- Bar-restaurant, communal barbecue hut and a playground on site
The kids are likely to be thrilled with a stay at Camping Ensoya in the Aude. Why? Because it’s a 15-minute drive from a set of fine, sandy Mediterranean beaches, it's close to the spectacular and popular Réserve Africaine de Sigean safari park – where around 3,800 animals roam semi-freely in a natural setting – and it’s near hubs for wakeboarding, sailing and rope climbing.
Plenty to do around and about, then. However, on site, all is peaceful and quiet, with fragrant pine and olive trees. There’s a communal barbecue hut, plus an informal bar-restaurant (with takeaway options) on site if self-catering’s not for you.
In fact, everything’s made easy for families at Camping Ensoya. A playground and table-tennis tables should keep the kids occupied, and there are shaded paths around the site for exercising any four-legged companions. And for your convenience, you can pick up fresh bread daily, rent sports equipment, hire high chairs and pushchairs, and borrow books from the library when quiet time is required.

Local attractions
Animal-mad visitors of all ages will probably be entranced by the Réserve Africaine de Sigean (15 minutes’ drive). This huge safari park can be toured both by car and on foot; there are more than 160 species of mammals, reptiles and birds to spot in (almost) natural surroundings, so plan on spending the whole day there. If that’s not enough to satisfy your quest for wildlife, try EcoZonia - Parc Animalier (40 minutes), which is dedicated to endangered predators like tigers and brown bears.
Active families are likely to have a ball at Camping Ensoya: you can go dinghy sailing from Port Mahon (15 minutes), try wakeboarding lessons (half an hour), or scramble through treetops on rope courses at Leucate Aventures (25 minutes).
For more relaxed leisure time, have a day on the golden sands of Plage Port La Nouvelle (15 minutes). If that’s too sedate for the kids, let them have a splash around on the rides at Aqualand Port Leucate waterpark (25 minutes). Alternatively, go hiking around the scrub, lagoons and wetlands of the Narbonnaise en Méditerranée Regional Natural Park (also 25 minutes).
