What customers say

Great riverside spot, surprisingly quiet in August & close to shops. Downsides: showers/toilets were a mess, some found the ground boggy, and on-site facilities didn't match the description.

Power optional grass site

Liked Surprisingly quiet campsite for August, we were very happy to be able to choose a shaded spot looking towards the river. We enjoyed a drink and music at the lively bar nearby, 5 mins walk. Also a short walk by the river.
Showers etc were very clean.

Disliked Overall the site seems a little uncared for, the grass was long, the shower block old, but definitely adequate. The toilets were clean, but not the best- a bit smelly.
Mosquitos active, as always near a river.

Power optional grass site

Liked Nothing

Disliked The weather had been wet for weeks and they clearly had not had an opportunity to cut the grass. The earth was so boggy that we had to pitch on the camp road.
The local town was a bit of a non-event. Only 2 restaurants open, one of which is reputed to be a Michelin star.
Toilet facilities basic. Good river view though.

Local attractions

First stop on your Indre-et-Loire adventuring may well be L’Île-Bouchard (five minutes’ walk), for its spectacular setting straddling the Vienne river. Have a wander around the ornate St Gilles Church, and then cross the river bridge to the graceful ruin of Saint Léonard’s Priory. More historic buildings await in the Loire Valley, from the hilltop castle and cobbled Old Town at Chinon (15 minutes) to the glitzy glamour of riverside Château de Chambord (90 minutes). Pretty Saumur (50 minutes) has an impressive Renaissance castle, museums of weaponry, decorative arts and er… mushrooms, plus dressage displays at the Cadre Noir. On your way there, make a stop off at the gleaming white, medieval Abbaye Royale de Fontevraud (35 minutes) at the confluence of the Vienne and Loire rivers, one of the biggest monasteries in Europe. To taste some local Touraine wines, head for Panzoult (five minutes’ drive) vineyards, and while you’re there, investigate the sculpture trail leading deep underground in the softly lit Cave de la Sibylle (10 minutes), carved from a former stone quarry.
