Peace, quiet and family time is what it’s all about at Camping Les Herlequins, a motorhome and tent site on the banks of Burgundy’s River Saône. Set in around 90 acres of greenery five minutes’ drive from the centre of Saint-Jean-de-Losne, the grass pitches are all partially shaded and some sit directly on the river banks. The pretty setting and well-kept, heated facilities will please all comers, as will the on-site restaurant serving delicious local cuisine made with quality local produce. There’s a relaxed vibe to the licensed bar – open from breakfast to supper for snacks and drinks – and if you’re after organised entertainment, you can join singing sessions, cooking lessons and games or crafts with the kids. Lively musical evenings often take place on the site too. Happily for the kids, they can also have a run about on the slides and swings, challenge mum and dad to games of pétanque or score goals on the mini-football field. Adults may prefer fishing on the Saône, and if you fancy an epic trip along the river banks, hire electric bikes (easy to use, well-maintained and insured) from the site and get pedalling.

Liked Really lovely location by lake in friendly pretty town. Staff were very friendly bar and restaurant good quality and great to have on site. Would definitely recommend staying.
Toilets/ showers clean and plenty of hot water.

Liked De plek was ruim en in de schaduw.
De plekken bij het water zijn aanzienlijk mooier.

Disliked Sanitair was gedateerd en minder schoon.

Disliked Bij aankomst was niet bekend dat we geboekt hadden.
Maar achteraf hebben ze de boeking wel gevonden, beetje vreemd maar het is wel opgelost.

Liked The riverside location. Some of the staff were friendly. Short walk to the village.

Disliked Very noisy from the bar- absolutely was not closed at 10pm. The bins were inventory full and you could hear a lot of ‘ unusual’ activity from the bin area at night. Some kind of creature! Shower block generally clean, no liquid soap in the dispensers for 4’out of 6 days.

Liked Die Lage ist super und auch, wie der Platz angelegt ist, war sehr schön.
Das Personal ist sehr freundlich und hilfsbereit.

Disliked Leider sind die Waschräume in die Jahre gekommen und gehören dringend renoviert. Auch die Sauberkeit lies zu wünschen übrig. Der Zugang zu den Waschräumen ist für Personen mit Gehbehinderung extrem schwierig. Die Stufen sind uneben und teilweise auch schief.
Der Platz war im Allgemeinen ungepflegt. An unserem Platz z.B. war die Säule mit Wasser und Strom beschädigt und umgefallen. Hier war auch die Sicherheit mangelhaft.
Die Wege im Platz selber sind extrem uneben und gehören dringend ausgebessert.

Fishing folk, gather round, for this site offers direct access to a small Saône river beach and its diverse fishing, ranging from perch to carp. If you’d rather float down the river than fish in it, hire the site’s own houseboat from reception and chug along the tree-lined waterway. There are also several long-distance hikes passing along the riverbanks to follow on foot or by bike, including the pilgrimage route to Santiago de Compostela in western Spain. If you’re looking to explore by car, make a stop at historic Auxonne (20 minutes’ drive) to see the landmark fort and well-preserved arsenal built by Vauban in 1690, and then have a wander around cobbled streets lined with ochre-coloured half-timbered houses. Gorgeous Dijon (45 minutes) is a splendid spot for a day trip, where you can marvel at medieval and Renaissance art in the Musée des Beaux-Arts de Dijon, then pick up gourmet cheeses and charcuterie from Les Halles Market to eat in the Jardin Botanique de l’Arquebuse.
