Previous guests rave about this site’s well-appointed facilities, its family-friendliness and its handy Normandy setting, an easy kilometre from its local settlement of La Haye-du-Puits. The Camping L'Etang des Haizes vicinity sets guests up for holidays of all flavours, providing plentiful outdoor activity and sightseeing options around the area, from horse and donkey rides and pedals along local cycle paths, to beaches, an adventure park and canoeing within 10 minutes, plus a golf course and a spectacular coastal walk around Cape Carteret within 20. Days spent on site are bound to go swimmingly too, at the ample facilities to amply occupy guests of all ages: first off, the aquatic area has a roomy pool and a four-track slide to whizz down, a whirlpool to bubble away in and a paddling pool where teenies can jump in for safe splashtime. The swimming pool is right next to a pond where guests can relax on a rented pedal boat or simply settle down among the peaceful surrounds with a picnic. Keep your eyes peeled, because you can sometimes see the greedy ducks that have taken up residence on the pond. Elsewhere on dry land, there are two playground areas with slides, a rope bridge and outdoor toys, and a kids' club with activities, games and creative play. Foodwise, shops, restaurants and a weekly Wednesday market in La Haye-du-Puits are all within a kilometre.

Liked: The facilities and the location - Le Haye on Puits is very pretty with everything you might need and just a short walk from the site. The pool was lovely and bar/outdoor seating was a great addition. We were pitched quite close to the toilet/shower block which in itself was clean and tidy. For younger children there seemed to be loads to do.

Liked: Spacious, flat pitches. The toilets/showers are amazingly clean. I was worried about them being unisex but it was fine. Individual wash basin cubicles were available although there didn't seem to be any lights in there when it went dark. Lovely pool and slides. Great location to walk into the town where there is a supermarket restaurants, shops and a big market. Brilliant site for children with the park, sports areas and pool.

Disliked: Pool could be a bit warmer but everything else was perfect.

Liked: Lovely relaxed friendly site on a lake with Pool. Felt very safe with the children off playing

Disliked: No shop, but you can order your breakfast then day before. Also evening meals mostly have to be pre booked so there's a fair bit of thinking and planning ahead rather than being spontaneous. But that aside we would go again. Pool a little too cold for August

Liked: The campsite's facilities were very clean and organised well. There were plenty of showers and toilets so you never had queue. The staff were always helpful and polite. Lovely swimming pool with impressive slides. They had playground just by the bar which was very convenient! Beautiful lake with a pedalo. The town was within walking distance and the beach a 20 mins drive away.

Liked: The site was big and was well equipped. The pool was good for the children (although cold) The people working on the site were really kind and helpful. Laundry facilities were good. The pitches were large and were well maintained. Very close to the village centre and also an Aldi and an Intermarche. Ping pong tables on site.

Disliked: Pool cold Not much within easy reach - many of the towns close by were tiny and didn’t have much going on. Bar was lacking in the food department.

Indeed, we are away from busy places, nearby go to charming place of Portbail, enjoy our wide and quiet sandy beaches, walk to Mont de Doville and mont Castre, ... and a little further, visit the D-Day sites, Barfleur, or Bayeux. Eat on site : we have 2 food trucks a week and we do prepared dishes like Boeuf Bourguignon, chili con carne, moussaka, veggie lasagna, etc... burgers also available. Welcome again ! Patrice L.

Disliked: Disliked toilet paper being outside of toilets. Swimming pool was not heated

Local attractions

There’s a fair bit to do within a kilometre, from scenic horseback tours and sedate donkey rides to pleasant pedals along local cycle circuits. Also within easy reach are canoeing and kayaking, archery and mountain bike hire at the leisure base of Saint Sauveur le Vicomte, where there’s also an adventure tree-climbing centre. An 18-hole coastal golf course is a short drive away at Saint-Jean-de-la-Rivière. For a pleasant and family-friendly seaside resort, head to the spectacular sandy beach of Barneville-Carteret, also a lively fishing and sailing port with boat connections to the Channel Islands for seafaring sightseers. Coastal hikes can be had from here too: get onto the Douaniers footpath for a seaview promenade around Cape Carteret. The World War II Normandy landing beaches of Utah, Sainte-Mère-Église and Omaha are within an hour's drive.
