  • In the Livradois-Forez Regional Natural Park, 2km from Vollore-Ville
  • Volcano views on site; an hour's drive from Puy-de-Dôme and Vulcania
  • Heated outdoor pool, playground and bar-restaurant
Fancy a foray to the Livradois-Forez Regional Natural Park? Make tracks for Camping Le Montbartoux for a stay right there in the park, surrounded by quiet woodland and trails through the trees, and with some stunning views towards the region’s chain of volcanoes. Venture along the road for a couple of kilometres from this Auvergne site and you’ll happen upon the village of Vollore-Ville – a petite (and pretty) place but big enough to be home to a café, bakery, grocery store and a couple of other handy bits and bobs. If you’re after more extensive amenities, plot a course to Courpière (15 minutes’ drive) or Thiers (25 minutes). Not in the mood to forage for food? Keep things simple by availing yourselves of the site’s food shop or the offerings at the bar-restaurant – a cunning plan that should leave you with even more time for swims in the heated open-air pool, play time at the playground, ping pong table and games room or jaunts into the local area on foot or by bike. And if you’re here during the height of summer, you may well find sociable theme evenings on the schedule too (a handy way to get food and entertainment sorted at the same time…)

Power optional grass site

Liked The view - which is spectacular.
The remoteness of the site, with lots of bird sound, including a rather persistent cuckoo.

Disliked The uneven pitches.
The toilet block is quite basic, with no toilet paper or soap.
The approach is up a mountain (as the name would suggest).

Liked Beautiful views from the campsite. Quite an intimate and what felt like a family run campsite. We were having mechanical issues therefore contacted the campsite via email regarding this and their reply was prompt and reassuring. Most of the toils blocks were closed (low season) apart from the disabled toilet section which we used and was immaculately clean. There was a nice children play areas which our little one loved.

Power optional grass site

Liked We were given a choice of pitch on arrival and chose the best view of the gorgeous valley and Puy de Dome range in the distance. Best things about this site:
Great pool, lovely clean facilities, pizza and bakery goods on site, lovely village of Vollore-Ville ten mins cycle down the road with fab shop and lovely restaurant/bar. Lunch time set menu 16 euros, amazing sunsets and night skies

Power optional grass site

Liked A small family run campsite in a pretty area with magnificent views. The shower and toilet facilities were new and spotlessly clean. We visited at the end of the season and there were very few people there. There is a lovely pool on site and a small bar that serves pizza and bread for the morning - both looked lovely but we didn’t get chance to try them as we were only there for one night. We bought probably the best burger we’ve ever had from the bakers in the nearest village (Vollore-Ville) There is also a lovely little bar in the same square (Place de la Fontaine). We totally recommend this site and will be back. It would be nice to see it in Summer.

Power optional grass site

Liked Stunning! What views, what views. Sunsets to die for. Only people on the site, which has large pitches and great swimming pool. Village in walking distance has great coffee and breakfast options. We had the best walks of the holiday with in 10min drive of the site.

Disliked Quirky washrooms, seems to be all over the place.

We had a cabin well appointed clean comfortable and well equipped

#3 1 bedroom lodge (four person)

Liked We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We were made very welcome and the staff were always available and very friendly. The accommodations was perfect with the most beautiful views over the valley to Vollore-Ville. Vollore-Ville is a beautiful old town and well worth a visit. We are cyclists and the cycling is amazing, endless country roads to explore and all so beautiful. Highly recommend.

Local attractions

Want to get out and see some of those volcanoes up close? It’ll take you an hour or so to drive over to Puy-de-Dôme to wander about among the lava domes and cinder cones of the area’s youngest (but most famed) peak – or to take the easy route up on the railway if you’re not up for the climb. Any geology-based questions that crop up along the way should hopefully be answered in the exhibits at Vulcania theme park (an hour and 10 minutes' drive), and the mineral-packed waters that spring from the volcanic soil can be sampled (either as a drink or by sinking into warm thermal baths) in Vichy (an hour and five minutes). A little closer to home, it’s worth stopping in the pretty medieval town of Thiers (25 minutes) and taking a look at your local castle, the 12th-century Château de Vollore (five minutes/45 minutes on foot). For more rural times, aim for Lac d’Aubusson (10 minutes), where you can swim, fish or hire canoes and pedaloes.
