Might you be a musical type? You may be in demand here, for at Camping La Vallée de Gardeleau a piano, guitar and violin are kept to hand, ready for nimble-fingered guests to treat the crowd to a tune…
Should you be more of a listener than a player, the restaurant and terraced bar of this fab site in France’s Lot-et-Garonne region make a fine place to sit and sip local artisan beers… or dine on homemade dishes and pizzas while your fellow residents serve up the sounds.
With food and evening entertainments sorted, you can focus on filling up your days, and you’ll have lots to do in this region of caves and castles, rivers and vineyards. You can be equally active on site though, with a swimming pool for lengths and splashing; ping pong, darts and table football for the sporting sorts, and boules and miniature golf for those who like their games a little more laidback.
With daily fresh bread and pastries and groceries delivered, you could spend many a day here without needing to sally forth. When you do feel a twitch of wanderlust, hire bikes from the site to explore the leafy lanes of the surrounding area, or head over to the local equestrian centre, less than five minutes’ drive away, for a horse trek through the peaceful hills.

Local attractions
If you like your bike rides with more bite, ask the site team about the local trails: there are three circuits nearby, between 10 and 22 kilometres in length. Should you fancy frolics of an aquatic kind, the recreation centre at La Sauvetat du Dropt (20 minutes’ drive) is one of many places where you can take to the waters in canoes and kayaks.
For gentler times on the water, Bergerac (half an hour away) is a handy spot for a barque (traditional barge) cruise down the Dordogne river. Dally a while in the city too for tours of its museums of wine and tobacco, wanders round the cobbles and half-timbered houses of the Old Town, and lazy outdoor lunching in the Place Pellissière. Just south of the city, the Château of Montbazillac makes a top combination of history and tippling, with tours of the Renaissance pile, plus vineyard walks and cellar tastings.
For antics at height, try testing your nerve on the ropes and zipwires at Parc en Ciel (40 minutes), or for a total subterranean contrast take a tour through the stalactite-filled cave network of Fontirou (50 minutes). Top it all off with every kind of ride, slide and scream-inducing experience at Walibi Sud-Ouest amusement park, an hour and 10 minutes away.
