Local attractions

Discover the pretty town of Mimizan, only 15 minutes away, and visit its famous church and belltower which now forms part of the UNESCO Heritage Sites list, because of the town's previous role as a stopping point on the pilgrimage route to Santiago de Compostela. Relax by the Aureilhan Lake, next to the town, very popular with visitors because of its nature trails and the chance to enjoy picnics in a picturesque setting. You can also hire a boat to better explore the surroundings. Visit Dax (30 minutes), the biggest spa town in France, famous for its thermal spring water and mud treatments. The most important site in Dax is the "Fontaine Chaude" where there is a pool of hot thermal water inside a Roman-style structure built in the nineteen-century. Also worth seeing in Dax is the Hotel Splendid, an Art Deco Hotel which is considered to be a key work of the Art Deco period in the 1930s. Ernest Hemingway and Joseph Kessel are amongst the celebrities of the time who stayed in the hotel. Stroll along the two most famous gardens of Dax, the Plantarium at Gaujacq, a botanic garden with a large collection of plants and the Parc du Sarrat, covering three hectares and with a botanic garden and a potager. Moreover, Bordeaux and the beautiful Basque Coast are only about one hour away.
