  • Family-friendly site with a waterpark including a heated swimming pool
  • A 15-minute drive to Pauillac and 30 minutes to Lacanau beaches
  • Waterslides, Jacuzzi, bar, snack bar, petanque and multisports courts
With a waterpark including a heated indoor pool, slides, a Jacuzzi and two paddling pools – one of which is covered – Camping Le Paradis really is a family-friendly haven. Not convinced? It’s also got miniature golf, a kids’ club that runs during the weekdays and games to keep the smaller members of your clan from ever uttering the dreaded words ‘I’m bored…’ Whether touring as a family, couple or on your own, this park’s prime for forging a fine time in France: set in the Gironde department, it’s sandwiched between forests, lakes and ocean. If you’re wanting inspiration for adventures, owners Isabelle and Bernard – who’ve been running the place for well over a decade – are on hand to give travel tips; check in with them about possible walks and cycle rides straight from the site. There are plenty to pick from: Gironde has 435 kilometres’ worth of trails, including a 100-kilometre pathway along the whole west coast of the Médoc peninsula linking up Montalivet and Vendays. The site's also a 15-minute drive from Pauillac on the Gironde estuary, one of the top wine-growing spots in the Médoc region, where you can sip on samples at the wine châteaux around town like Château Lafite-Rothschild, Château Latour and Château Mouton Rothschild. Bring your bottles back on base or order more at the on-site bar to go with a snack from the cafeteria or dinner grilled up at the barbecue area. A breakfast service and chances to reserve bread and pastries for the morning make mealtimes easier as well. When the food's polished off, other facilities to make use of at this park include an on-site library, petanque and multisports courts.

Local attractions

The seaside’s relatively near to this site: it’s just a half an hour drive to the sought-after surf beaches around Lacanau on the Côte d'Argent and 40 minutes from fishing and canoeing beside the shores of Montalivet. Drop by the Animalia Parc zoo on your way (25 minutes), sitting right by the pine forest of Naujac-sur-Mer. To test out other watersports, the eastern edge of Lac d'Hourtin-Carcans is 55 minutes’ drive for paddleboarding and kitesurfing on a large lake, and if France’s stunning scenery leads you even further south, the Dune of Pilat and the Arcachon basin are about an hour and a half away. Cities can also easily be added into the mix while in the Médoc, with Bordeaux an hour and five minutes’ drive.
