Sea or lake shenanigans – take your pick at Camping Le Littoral in the Gironde. The campsite is by the Atlantic Ocean but also near France's biggest freshwater lake the Lac d'Hourtin-Carcans: you might surmise that beach visits, sailing, kayaking and surfing are all around these watery parts…? (We'd say oui.)
On land, the area is favoured with active sorts who like to tackle hiking, cycling and horse riding, go on a walking tour or tee off for a round or two of France-based golf. Too much activity? Plenty of bars, restaurants and shops are within a short distance.
On site, plenty is on hand too, like splashing around in the pool, playing pétanque (one must play pétanque at a French campsite), or going along to the evening entertainment arranged in high season by the friendly site team. A site snack bar serves food and cold drinks.
Camping Le Littoral also has a launderette and amenities blocks with showers and toilets.

Local attractions
As we may have mentioned, this is an active area, so take yourself off to coast and/or countryside for watery activities such as sailing and surfing, and land-based days hiking, biking, woodland walking, horse riding and playing golf.
This is also a wine-growing region – but of course – with several local vineyards around at which to investigate winemaking and sample their vineyardy wares: ask the Camping Le Littoral team for their recommendations.
Beach, coast and waterwise, the nearby coastal village of Naujac-sur-Mer is a popular spot for its sands and its sea fishing; Lacanau is known for its surfing, and Soulac-sur-Mer comes with the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Notre-Dame-de-la-Fin-des-Terres Basilica.
