  • Peaceful location by the Isle river on the edge of Saint-Astier
  • A 15-minute drive to Périgueux; half an hour to Bergerac
  • Swimming pool, fishing and summer kids' club on site
This is a scenic location – and a handy one too, because Camping Le Périgord is on the banks of the Isle river just a few minutes’ walk from Saint-Astier's town centre. That means you’ll not only be able to relax and soak up the peaceful natural surroundings of this Dordogne site, but you'll also easily be able to wander out to shops and restaurants to sample some of the cuisine the Périgord is so well known for. Being on the banks of the river means that guests can take walks along the river or fish for trout, carp, pike and black bass. If you feel like swimming, head along to the site's outdoor swimming pool. What else might you get up to on site? Well, there’s a pétanque court, a miniature golf area, a multisports court and a ping-pong table, and the kids can let off steam at the playground, leap around on the bouncy castle or join in with organised activities (five days a week in summer). There's also occasional evening entertainment in summer, so see what's on while you're here. On a more practical front, the site has a wifi connection, a launderette and a grocery store (with fresh bread deliveries), and a snack bar opens up through the summer holidays. There’s also bike hire for those who'd like to pedal their way around the local area.

Liked Location.
Very nice people in cafe

Disliked The weather, so hot couldn't bear it (no ones fault)and we had gone there because they had a swimming pool, but when we got there it was closed. Booked for 2 nights but only stayed 1 night and went back to coast, our decision. Showers and toilets very outdated.

Unpowered grass site

Liked Location and large shaded pitches. Short walk to lovely town of Saint Astier with great range of services.

Disliked The toilet and shower facilities were dated and in major need of regular cleaning, maintenance and modernisation. A sink in the toilet area would be helpful and more hygienic. The website suggested there was bike hire bit there was none available.

Liked The swimming pool

Disliked An onsite shop would be handy for essentials.
Snack bar disappointing as it only sold drinks and crepes. Burgers and pizzas would be ideal.

Liked Good sized park and large shaded spots to pitch up. Close to river. Good sized swimming pool and slides (although didn’t use). Snack bar (didn’t use). 5/10 min walk to town. 5/10 min walk to good sized Lidl

Disliked The site was tired and tatty. The toilets were not clean and the shower had one temp (hot) which is fine but not when you want to cool down. Very little open in town on a Monday. One restaurant. Thursday has a market day.

Local attractions

This area is well known for its gastronomy – and the place to start discovering it is the market, held every Thursday in Saint-Astier. There are also some lovely places to eat in the town, and it won't take long to reach the region’s foodie capital, Périgueux (15 minutes’ drive), where you should also take a wander around Saint-Fort cathedral. Something to wash it down with? There are lots of lovely vineyards and wineries around Bergerac (half an hour), in particular the dessert wine producers of Monbazillac. While you're in Bergerac, seek out the statue of Cyrano de Bergerac and take a trip along the Dordogne on a traditional gabarre boat. There’s lots of history to dip into around this area too – check out prehistoric art at the caves of Lascaux (45 minutes), see the amazing villages of Les Eyzies (45 minutes), with houses built into the cliffs. If the kids are more into outdoor adventures, try the treetop trails at Vergtaventures (20 minutes) or go canoeing along the Dordogne (half an hour).
