It's free, quick and easy!
- Mobile homes a 10-minute walk from the sea, on the outskirts of Selce
- Rijeka 40 minutes’ drive; Risnjak National Park one hour
- Outdoor pools; playground and miniature golf; food shop
Get ready to make a splash (snorkel at the ready) when you stay at Elements Camping Selce – mainly because you’ll be about a 10-minute walk from a couple of rather splendid beaches (including sandy/gravelly Plaža Poli Mora) lapped by spectacularly clear waters.
The site – an expansive collection of mobile homes, all with a decked area for eating alfresco or simply shooting the breeze – lies on the outskirts of the village of Selce (a five-minute drive or a 10-minute walk), opposite the island of Krk, on the Kvarner Gulf of northern Croatia.
Mediterranean vegetation provides plenty of shade for guests, and if you need to cool further, there’s an open-air pool (well… two pools, really, on separate levels linked by a waterfall, plus a paddling pool). The surrounding patio area has sun loungers and umbrellas – oh, and views of the coast, which is only about half a kilometre away.
If making like a lizard on a sun lounger isn’t for you, Beach Uvala Slana is dotted with places where you can hire a kayak or a paddleboard to explore the coastline from the water, book a diving excursion or have a go at parasailing or tubing.
Back on site after an active day at the seaside, unleash the kids at the playground or miniature golf while you get dinner ready. If you can’t find the ingredients for your cookout at the on-site shop, there are several supermarkets in the village. Along the seafront in Selce there are also loads of restaurants serving seafood, pizza and regional specialities.

Local attractions
Hiking trails lace the wooded hills behind the site, but if you don’t fancy tackling the ascent, drive to Vidikovac Mahavica - Eyes of Vinodol (half an hour), from where you can take in a huge stretch of coastline and the island of Krk.
Boat trips to the islands in the Kvarner Gulf depart from Rijeka (40 minutes). The town is well worth a visit for its Maritime and History Museum of the Croatian Coast, housed in an elegant palace and displaying sail boats, weapons and other artefacts. There are views of the sea and the port area from hilltop Trsat Castle.
Hiking enthusiasts make a beeline for Risnjak National Park (one hour), a nature area of wooded mountains, underground caves and limestone fields that is home to wildlife such as wolves and bears, plus dozens of bird species.
