- Welcoming park with the Piendamó river ravine running through it
- A 10-minute walk to Silvia for the well-known weekly indigenous market
- Hammocks and campfires on site; tours in the surrounds organised
Organise the South American hol of your fantasies at La Casa de Los Suenos – literally translating into ‘House of Dreams’– in south western Colombia’s Cauca department. This site on the outskirts of Silvia is a restful place where you can stroll beside the on-site Piendamó river ravine by morning, lie back in a hammock in the afternoon and sit around the campfire at night…
The wider area’s also serene: it’s often referred to as the nation’s answer to Switzerland for its lush green countryside and is a top setting for hikes. Treks can be kicked off straight from site if you’re craving an adventure, including to the Mirador Peña Corazon with views over a sweeping valley a couple of hours away upriver on foot.
You can also wander towards waterfalls and a trout farm – just ask at the site for info – or borrow a bike free of charge and cycle in the surrounds. The savvy owners at La Casa de Los Suenos are the creators of the EnBICIate for Silvia project, which marks out key places in and around town on a handy map.
The park’s staff can also arrange all sorts of guided excursions such as birdwatching, hiking on ecological trails and horseback riding. If you’d like to learn about the indigenous Guambianos people who gather in Silvia’s market selling agricultural goods and animals, they can organise this for you too. Seven different indigenous communities call this area their home, with tours available to nearby towns where you can learn more about local ancestral medicine.
If you’ll need a break after all that education, the park’s a welcoming place for relaxing on one of the swings and keeping an eye out for the hummingbirds and sparrows that flit around the area...

Local attractions
If you’re in Silvia town for the market or to taste some Colombian cuisine (10 minutes’ walk) make sure to stop by the colourful church to get an insight into the country’s predominantly Catholic culture.
To swot up on indigenous history instead, take the 40-minute drive to the Guambianos peoples village of El Pueblito (or hike here for a couple of hours and soak up the scenery along the way). Other options for trekking includes around Laguna El Tejar, Las Tres Cruces and the El Paraíso fish station – check at the site for routes and distances.
Pondering the next place to visit on your Colombian tour? The sprawling city of Cali – known for its salsa dancing culture – is three hours’ drive.
