It's free, quick and easy!
- On rainforest-covered Boipeba Island, steps from sandy Morere beach
- Local mangrove walks, sunset tours and snorkelling opportunities
- Communal kitchen, wifi and chillout areas; kayaks for rent on site
Ahoy – now here's a fab spot for island hols. Camping Airumã is a family-run site on the edge of Morere beach (said to be one of the best in Brazil) on beauteous Boipeba Island. Just off the coast of Bahia State, this UNESCO-registered destination is home to a gorgeous landscape of salt marshes, sand dunes and palm-lined beaches.
Hear the water calling? As well as making it easy for guests to get plenty of beach time, Camping Airumã has kayaks available to rent; the site organises self-paddled jaunts to beauty spots such as the turquoise waters of the Moreré pools. Check in with staff about other activities, too – there are guided oyster-tasting, mangrove-touring and sunset-watching trips to check out across the island. Other local agencies organise whale watching, snorkelling and scuba diving outings, too.
Back on site, take advantage of the wifi to upload the video footage of all the sea urchins, starfish and turtles you've papped on your underwater adventures. Foodwise, there’s a restaurant on hand serving tasty local fare and a communal kitchen with a gas stove and fridge if you'd rather cook your own. Alfresco grills are also on the cards thanks to the shared outdoor barbecue (and the washing-up area may come in handy afterwards…).

Local attractions
Boipeba Island is located in the Tinharé archipelago. Sandwiched between a brackish river estuary and the open ocean, this floating part of Bahia state is home to many different ecosystems: mangroves, marshlands, sand dunes and lush forest can all be visited here (enquire on site for tour options).
Only head to these parts if you're happy leaving the car at home: Boipeba Island is totally car-free, with a network of tractors on hand to help visitors lug their kit from village to village. It is also possible to get ferried around by boat (enquire on site).
Moreré beach (directly opposite the site entrance) has a handful of seafront bars and snack shacks where guests can pick up treats to enjoy on the soft white sand. Bainema beach (half an hour's walk) is also well worth a visit for its seafood feasts and swimming opportunities.
On the other side of the island, Cova da Onça (10 kilometres from the site) is home to a secluded, palm-fringed cove and restaurant – head here for more spectacular ocean vistas.
