  • Peaceful riverside site five minutes' drive from Pirenópolis
  • Well placed for waterfall walks and outdoor adventures
  • River swimming and barbecue area on site; brewery bar over the road
A rural spot that’s only a short way from the city centre… it’s an attractive location on all fronts for Camping Recanto Beira Rio. This simple and laidback site is on the riverbank about five minutes’ drive from the centre of Pirenópolis, so you’ll be able to select town-wandering days or peaceful country chillout time depending on how you feel at the time. Stick around on site and you’ll be able to take a dip in the river, snooze in the shade of the trees or take a short stroll to a nearby waterfall before cooking up an alfresco dinner at the barbecue area. Kids, dogs and groups are all welcome, and there are handy facilities including toilets and showers on site. Although it's not part of the site, it’s still good to know that there’s a brewery over the road with a bar selling its own beers. Head into town instead and you’ll be able to pick up food in the shops, find places to eat and browse other shops for things like crafts and souvenirs. The real draw here, however, is the fabulous natural landscapes of the surrounding area – most guests use this site as a base for outdoor adventures in the lush jungle scenery, especially hikes and swims at the many, many waterfalls scattered around nearby.

Local attractions

Start your trip with a visit to Pirenópolis (five minutes' drive), for a stroll through the town’s cobbled streets, a tour of Museu Rodas do Tempo and a spot of shopping at the markets and craft shops. It’s a fairly low-key town but tends to burst into life with festivals from time to time, so see if there's anything going on while you’re here. Presumably though, your main reason for visiting this area is its waterfalls – and a quick look at the map will show you that there are lots of them dotted around, often with jungle trails to follow and access for cool swims. The small falls at Cachoeira Usina Velha are the closest at five minutes' drive away, but you could also check out the more dramatic cascades at Cachoeiras Bonsucesso (20 minutes), Cachoeira do Abade (35 minutes), Cachoeira do Rosário (55 minutes), Cachoeiras dos Dragões (an hour)… the list goes on… For other ways to take in some of the scenery, sign up for canyoning, ziplining, climbing and other adrenaline activities at Pireneus Aventuras (half an hour).
