It's free, quick and easy!
- Small functional site on a hillside overlooking Sarajevo
- Half an hour's walk from the city centre and Old Town
- Showers, essential services and a sociable covered terrace area
You’ve heard of Hollywood, and most likely Bollywood too; now it’s time for Olywood, a small site attached to a guest house in a hillside location above Sarajevo and Trebević… and with views to rival the Californian original.
Unlike its rhyming cousins, Olywood favours peace and quiet over glitz and glam, focusing on the essentials rather than unnecessary extras. As well as those fab views, pitches here have services to hook up to and a host of handy facilities including free wifi, showers and a laundry room. Leisure time is sorted at the garden with barbecue, surrounding forest paths and a covered terrace with tables and chairs.
As fine as the scenery is on site, you’ll no doubt not be content simply seeing Sarajevo from afar. Set out on foot and it’s a half-hour stroll to get to the city centre to take in the museums and mosques, wander through the Old Town and sample tasty eats. Alternatively, hire bikes on site or have a chat with the team who can sort you with organised tours of the city and its surrounds.

Local attractions
Start your Sarajevo stay with a stroll through the Old Town, a maze of cobbled streets that’s still got much of its 15th-century architecture intact; it’s also a fine place to find local eats (ćevapi being a fave pick), coffees and plenty of shops to poke about in.
This is a city with heaps of fascinating history of course – you’ll likely spot the scars of its more recent years in the shape of bullet holes and the effects of shell blasts as you wander (especially if you find your way to Sniper Alley). To get further under the skin of the city, make for the Sarajevo Tunnel Museum, the Jewish Museum and the museums and monuments dedicated to the genocide victims. You may also like to visit the stunning town hall and Gazi Husrev-beg Mosque, or grab a communist-themed coffee at Caffe Tito.
For a break from the city centre, ride the cable car up Mount Trebević to see the abandoned Olympic bobsleigh track, wander a few minutes from the site to Sunnyland amusement park or take the bus to Visoko to see the Bosnian Pyramids (said to be bigger than the famed ones at Giza). Mostar, Travnik and Srebrenica are all doable as day trips, too.
