- Spacious and peaceful bushland retreat in the Whitsundays
- Beach and boat ramp within 10 mins' drive; 45 minutes to Airlie Beach
- Family-friendly space with communal firepit; dogs welcome
A bit of beach time, a bit of bush experience – and quite possibly a boat trip to one of the most spectacular island landscapes the world has to offer. There’s certainly a lot of variety and gorgeous nature awaiting for guests at Meraki Haven.
This peaceful bushland retreat is in the Whitsundays area, a couple of minutes’ drive inland from Midge Point. It makes an excellent base for touring this scenic area, but it’s also just a lovely place to slow down for a while, enjoy the fresh air and reconnect with nature. You’ll often spot lots of birdlife while you’re at the property, and maybe the occasional passing echidna too.
The atmosphere here is suitably laidback – guests are welcome to choose their own campsite among the spacious gently undulating grounds, and to bring kids and dogs along to share the experience. Facilities have been kept simple to help guests make the most of the natural setting, but you’ll have access to all the essentials in the form of a hot shower, a flushing toilet and a well-equipped camp kitchen with barbecue and utensils provided.
Campfire evenings are a key part of the experience too, so when darkness falls head over to the communal fire pit for some time spent sharing stories under the stars as you gaze into the crackling flames.

Local attractions
You’ll want to dedicate some of your time to hanging out at your accommodation, looking out for wildlife and generally soaking up the peaceful atmosphere – but there’s plenty to keep you occupied once you’re ready to go out and about. You may like to start with Bredl’s Wildlife (10 minutes’ drive) for animal experiences including the chance to cuddle koalas or handle baby crocs, or explore wild nature as you walk, cycle or ride horses through Cathu State Forest (half an hour).
Meanwhile, over at the coast there’s plenty of scope for fishing and boating (the nearest boat ramp is a 10-minute drive away) or finding gorgeous beaches like Bundesen (five minutes) or Ten Mile Beach (accessed by boat). Conway National Park (50 minutes to the trailhead) is another spectacular destination, with hiking trails running through rainforest to the coast.
If there’s one thing the Whitsundays area is known for it is, of course, those spectacular islands – see them from above on a scenic flight from Whitsunday Coast Airport (25 minutes) or take a boat trip from Airlie Beach (45 minutes) to explore the islands with walks and snorkel stops.
