General

  • Quiet farm campsite deep in the Pembrokeshire countryside
  • Seaside towns of Tenby and Saundersfoot 20 minutes' drive
  • Simple campsite in a mown field; half a mile from a local pub

Find your feet in the Pembrokeshire countryside and get to grips with the local landscape at The Folly, a small-scale farm site set on a peaceful farm. Located in Martletwy, this roomy and scenic spot has plenty of space, excellent access to walks and nature trails and basic facilities for guests looking to explore this very special part of the world.

The main pitching area is set in a large mown field where facilities include a water standpipe and two portable toilets. One shower is available on request a short distance away from the pitches next to the owners' house (please speak with them to arrange). If you don't mind roughing it, it's also possible to set up shop away from the main pitching field in a secluded place somewhere else on the farm (please speak to the owners for suggestions).

The Folly is about half a mile from a local pub that serves drinks and meals throughout the week. Wild Lakes Wales, a watersports centre where there's also a café and bar, is just slightly further up the road (so near, in fact, that it's possible to see it from some parts of the site).

Dogs are allowed here, but please remember that this is a farm so they'll need to be on leads.

Location is fantastic for families, close to all main attractions e.g. Oakwood, heatherton, folly farm, wild lakes, bluestone. Truly best of both worlds feeling very rural in the farm surroundings and forests but also a short drive from many fantastic beaches!

The field for campers is huge with a fantastic forest at the bottom. The bell tent field is just next to the main camping field. Each bell tent had their own fire pit and wooden hut with basic cooking equipment, plates bowls, cups ECT really no need to bring anything other than food! The cooler box system worked fantastically! We were able to change our ice packs when ever we needed to with the owners which kept out bacon and milk for breakfast cool enough.

The tents are all lit up with battery fairy lights inside and out as well as some solar lights in the trees which was just magical for our little girl.

We enjoyed visiting the animals on the farm from the cows in the next field to the gorgeous sheep and horses. Our little girl enjoys feeding and seeing all the animals every day she even sat on the horse one morning when the owner bright him into the camping field. This was such as lovely touch! There are three dogs onsite too, the owner checked if we were happy for them to be roaming around the farm, they were obviously very use to visitors and children and were very well behaved. Skye was a particular favourite of my little girl!

The owner shared her hopes for developing this side of the business and we are so excited to see what it becomes and cannot wait to book in next year! We just wish we had found this place sooner!

    Disliked:

Really nothing to dislike about this place!

Cozy camping in rural area with very friendly owner30/08/2022

We kind of stumbled upon this new camping by accident but loved every minute we spent there! The bell tents were nicely decorated and each has its own little external kitchen area that is fully equipped; pans, two wine glasses, cutlery, two gas stoves. Just perfect. Also the complementary fire pit was a big plus.

The camping itself is the perfect base for trips to towns like Marloes. The owner told us about the natural splendour of that beach town. It blew our minds, especially for us Dutchies.

The owner was very kind and helpful and really made us feel at home.

    Disliked:

The only thing I can think of is an upgraded shower. But since this camping just started not everything can be perfect. The shower and toilets were clean and had nice hot water but could use a touchup. The owner told us that this will be the first thing they will take care of in the new season.

So for now see this awesome rural camping as a diamond in the rough. Good enough for most people, perfect for us.

Ps. We did not use wifi so I do not know if that was an option.

We Stayed at the Folly in During the summer holidays for 4nights, with the in laws joining us for the last night in their own camper. Ann the owner was very welcoming, gave us a couple tours around to meet the horses, calves, see the allotments etc. Offered us space to place our dog in her Kennels for us to go on a day out. Safe for the children, who pretty much had run of the field. Will definitely return when we are local again. Portaloo was always clean and smelling decent!!

    Disliked:

    The dark portaloo at night.

The owners of the farm/campsite are very friendly and Anne is very welcoming and gives great suggestions on where to visit; suggesting the great teepee street food restaurant that is on the Wild Welsh Lakes. It is a quiet campsite, a perfect place to visit if you want peace and quiet (the only noises you may hear are the animals and the distant sound of the Oakwood rollercoaster but it's very quiet!). It is also kept very clean and hot water/electricity is provided on site. Both myself and my partner fully enjoyed our stay at The Folly.
