In an area of outstanding natural beauty

  • Small family-run site on a working farm six miles from Newport
  • Free admission to Dyfed Shire Horse Farm included in stays
  • Café, nature trail and indoor and outdoor play areas
All ages – and the dog – should be kept nicely occupied at Dyfed Shire Horse Farm. At the foot of the Preseli Hills, the site is only 15 minutes' drive away from Newport beach and 20 minutes from Poppit Sands beach. As you might have gathered from the name, Shire horses live here. Visiting the farm is included in the price of your stay, and if you want to do an additional activity such as helping to feed some of the animals or going on a horse and cart ride, you're welcome to ask the team. For small guests, the site has an indoor play area with a ball pit and an indoor bouncy castle. A one-kilometre (and dog-friendly) nature trail also runs through the site's woodland and meadow. Dyfed Shire is on a working farm in a secluded and safe paddock in west Wales, six miles from the coastal path. It has a farm café (next to an outdoor play area) serving hot and cold food, a well-stocked shop and ice pack freezing. Barbecues and campfires are both allowed. Toilets and showers are a short walk from the camping field, and include a parent and baby washroom.

What customers say

Great views, friendly farm vibes with shire horses a hit. Loads of kids' activities, but loos and showers are pretty basic and a bit dated. Some found it could be cleaner, especially off-peak.

Power optional grass site

Liked Lovely farm setting with shires, shetlands and donkeys. The owners were so friendly- Enid is such a lovely lady - telling me the history of the farm and how its been in her family for 175 years. Great little cafe dies breakfast and lunches. Sells a few different bottles of cider- we tried the 'Bone Shaker' which was very nice.
The field had spacious pitches and beautiful views. Couple of showers and toilets- basic but adequate- plenty of hot water.

Liked Huw was really friendly, you could walk around the farm and see the animals. Easy with where to park up and connect to the electric. We were told where the sun sets and how to park so we could watch it. Just really nice and relaxed place to stay

Liked Great place to stay. Everyone very friendly. Our first time camping and had a blast watching the horses and taking out little boy round the farm/playground. Adele took us to the pitches and was a huge help for our whole stay thank you so much! Lovely lady in the reception/cafe area will definitely return! Facilities were nice and clean.

Power optional grass site

Liked Nothing unfortunately

Disliked Poor toilet and shower facilities - one of the reasons we didn’t end up staying. We weren’t prepared to let our children use such run down and dirty facilities. No outdoor play equipment as advertised and the play barn was extremely run down. No one around to speak to either.

Local attractions

This is a stunning part of west Wales, with beaches and coastal walks, castles, ancient forts and family attractions all easy to get to. Less than a mile from the farm in the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park is the Iron Age archaeological site of Castell Henllys with its Celtic roundhouses and regular events. Even the most iron-willed history resister should be stoked with a day here, where kids can hear ancient tales of the Pembrokeshire people, train as warriors, take the history trail or take part in some of the 80+ activities arranged here each year. Beach days are a must around here too: if you feel up for it, you can hike six miles from the farm to reach the coastal path at Newport, part of the Pembrokeshire Coast National Path running for 186 miles from Amroth to St. Dogmaels around this part of Wales shoreline. Family days at Folly Farm, Pembroke Castle, Tenby and Caldey Island are all within 30 miles of the farm.
