  • Family-run site situated on the Pembrokeshire Coast Path
  • Direct access to Porthsele beach; a mile from Whitesands
  • Farm shop, coffee hut, bar and pizzas available in high season
Fancy a stay on a family-run farm… with direct access to a beach below? Make your way to Pencarnan Farm Caravan and Camping Site, a 96-acre farm overlooking Porthsele beach on the Pembrokeshire coast. The site is on the most western tip of Pembrokeshire, with views of St Georges Channel connecting the Irish and Celtic seas. You'll be in good company with a stay here: generations of the same family have been running the site since the mid-1950s, a holiday spot for guests who return year after year – some with their kids and grandkids now in tow. This place is just the ticket for outdoor adventures too, as it's set directly above Porthsele beach (with private vehicle access so you can cart all your kit along with you). The sea and bay are safe for swimming and kayaking, and there are plenty of rockpools to explore at low tide. If you haven’t got your fill of sea breeze, surfing beach Whitesands is a one-mile walk along the coastal path or, if you’re feeling adventurous, a half-mile swim or kayak from Porthsele. Sorting supplies is easy at the farm too: in the high season, a site shop is on hand with camping and food supplies, wetsuits and logs for beach fires, and a coffee hut opens every day. A bar and pizzas are also available at peak times.

What customers say

Pencarnan Farm: gorgeous coastal spot, direct beach access & views. Friendly staff, great bar, cafe & pizza. Spacious, neat sites. Clean enough facilities with nice touches. Some find it windy & a bit dated, but most love it and want to come back.

Liked Shop, cafe and bar were great facilities. Location and access to the beach were incredible. Toilet & shower blocks were older but very clean and fully functional.

Disliked Only downside was it seemed to be hard to book a pitch in the beach view field. Couldn’t get availability online but the field was mostly empty when we were there. Would absolutely try again another time though. A few more toilets or showers dotted around would be good if possible as they could be a bit of a trek from some pitches.

3-amp Rhosson Field powered grass campervan, tent or trailer tent site

Liked Is a quiet site lovely location near the coast. Close to st David’s short drive from the site, there is a local bus running from the end of the drive didn’t find this out until we were leaving. The communal are is a homely area, pizza’s was great and the bar too.

Disliked The shower and toilets could do with a bit of a deep clean as there was numerous cobwebs in the ceiling

Liked EVERYTHING!! The beach was amazing and super easy to get to straight from the campsite. Our 19 month old was in his element. We had a bbq on the beach for my birthday at sunset and had the place to ourselves - it was absolutely magical!
The Pizza Hut was also a great addition. The courtyard for beers is also pretty cool.
Everyone we met was really friendly. Shower facilities were good and the baby and parent shower room.

Disliked Nothing really - it was an amazing place and we’d definitely go back!
My only call out would be that the hot water to wash the pots is lukewarm so it took multiple loads to get the grease off pots and pans, but even that wasn’t really an issue as it’s a nice vibe in the courtyard where everyone’s hanging out.

Rhosson Field unpowered grass campervan, tent or trailer tent site

Liked The location a couple of miles from St Davids was ideal. The site is large and there is plenty of space for tents. Pitches are not cramped or squeezed so you don’t feel crowded. The coastal scenery is beautiful and there is easy access to a small, private beach. The staff are friendly and helpful. There is a small shop selling basics, a coffee stall, a bar and pizza available. All set around a small courtyard seating area.

Disliked There are only two sinks for dishwashing and water was warm at best.

Liked Amazing views and facilities. The showers and toilets were always clean and the hair dryers were a nice touch!
The courtyard with bar, shop and pizza was lovely and there’s stunning views from the rooftop terrace
The beach is stunning and so close to the campsite

Disliked We had incredible weather but can see would be super windy if not! But that’s what you get with a coastal campsite and sea views! Wouldn’t put me off at all

Local attractions

This is heaven for beach buffs: Porthsele and Whitesands beaches are both within walking distance of Pencarnan. At Porthsele, take your pick from kayaking, surfing and paddleboarding from its sandy shore; if fishing's more your bag you can fish for mackerel, pollock and seabass from the beach and from certain points on the cliff around Pencarnan's land. There are also a few marked climbing spots around the cliffs on the land and some good entry points for coasteering or a coastal swim back to Porthsele beach… followed back at base with a sunset beach fire or barbecue to end the day. The famed surfing centre of Whitesands, a mile away on the coast path from Pencarnan, has a café, deckchairs and wetsuit hire, plus lifeguards in the summer months. Heading south, St Justinian’s (under a mile away along the coast path) is home to RNLI St Davids Lifeboat Station and a departure point for boat trips around, onto and beyond Ramsey Island to spy seals, seabirds, porpoises, whales, dolphins and sharks. Make time too for a trip to the tiny city of St Davids, to browse its shops and galleries and take a look at sixth-century St Davids Cathedral.
