Powered grass and earth site

Liked: The site is quite small, very convenient for walking into St Davids, quiet and with views to the sea in the distance. There is a food kiosk open several days of the week but not while we were there.

Disliked: There are only three toilets for each sex, one of the women's toilets didn't flush properly. Only four unisex showers in total. The bins were right behind our pitch so we were disturbed by people noisily recycling bottles late at night/early morning and slamming bin lids shut. Wifi very weak.

Liked: The view, how quiet the site is and how close it is to St David’s. Pitches were large. Food onsite but closed on a Wednesday and Thursday.

Disliked: Shower and toilet block a little dated but functional.

Liked: Location to St David’s and the beach, any easy walk to both. Recommend eating at the St David’s Cross Hotel

Disliked: Facilities could do with updating, rather basic for the price of the site. Also surprised that they allowed large single sex bookings

Unpowered grass and earth tent or campervan site

Liked: Campsite was really good and food in cafe was excellent. Easy walking distance from St Davids

Disliked: The pitchup cost was £24 for couple compared to the actual campsite was charging £14. So a massive markup from Pitchup. I would recommend booking direct to the campsite.

Local attractions

This compact little area has quite a bit to see and do, with many more attractions, activities and good restaurants within a short bus ride or drive. Stop off at the city of St Davids first to see its 12th-century cathedral, a popular place of pilgrimage in the Middle Ages (canny Pope Callixtus II decreed that two pilgrimages to St Davids = one pilgrimage to Rome, leading to the devout descending on it from all over. Clever.). Nature spotters can take an offshore islands boat trip from St Davids peninsula around Ramsey and Grassholm Islands to see porpoises, dolphins and occasionally whales in the water, and seabirds teeming all around. Ramsey has cliffs up to 120 metres high and Grassholm is the third most important gannet breeding area in the country with 39,000 pairs of birds ducking about – probably a bit noisy in spring… Speaking of noisy chicks, if you have the youngsters with you they’ll probably appreciate a day trip to one of Pembrokeshire’s leisure parks: award-winning Folly Farm; Oakwood Theme Park at Narberth, and paintball, karting and high ropes at Heatherton in Tenby.
