  • Secluded single bell tent on a 17-acre Carmarthenshire smallholding
  • Direct access to Brechfa Forest; Llandeilo 25 minutes' drive
  • Private kitchen and bathroom facilities; fresh eggs and meat for sale
Seeking a bit of seclusion? You’ll certainly get it at The Lookout, where you’ll be staying in the only tent at a 17-acre Carmarthenshire smallholding with valley views – and your nearest neighbours will be goats and horses. This is a proper glamping experience in that you’ll have things like beds (including pillows and base sheets only), a firepit, lights, a cool box and outdoor seating provided – but it’s also got something of a wild camping vibe, as it’s an off-grid setup in a private clearing with a view over the valley. You'll need to bring your own towels and a duvet or sleeping bags. Facilities include a compost toilet, an eco-friendly bucket shower and a well-equipped camp kitchen with a covered eating space and mains water. You’ll also have access to a ‘dry room’ for storing your bikes, boots and supplies. Some of those supplies – including fresh eggs and home-reared pork – are available to buy on site; for bigger stockups you’ll need to head to somewhere like Llanbydder, 10 minutes’ drive away. Weekend guests can also brunch or lunch at the owners' gourmet burger van, which is based at Hafod Trails, a couple of miles from the site. Once you’ve looked at the forest views, you’ll no doubt want to get out to explore it for yourselves – and that’s easily done, as there’s a bridleway leading from the site that links up with walking and cycling trails in Brechfa Forest. Nearby, you can also head out onto Llanllwni mountain for stunning views, particularly at sunset, and the chance to spot lots of wildlife and livestock. The coast isn’t far off either – it’ll take you about 40 minutes to get to hotspots like New Quay and Llangrannog.

Liked: Excellent location, the hosts were amazing and made us very welcome. The covered kitchen/eating area was great when it rained. Plenty of firewood supplied.
